It’s not, like, horrible, but it’s SUPER stiff and, quite frankly, unnecessary. But then again, I’m just one dude that collects random shit.

Yeah I quite like Murakami but wasn’t happy when I saw these. It’s like they have been designed by someone who has never seen proper sofubi and has just been told about it. I’m not a fan of Instinctoy who I think has got him going down this route.

They better buff out those shitty 3D print lines before going into production... come to think of it you can put anything by Instinct Toy in this thread

Haha, well - I reckon about 20% of my toy collection has never been photographed. You gotta keep some stuff just for you.

    That is.... totally fair enough.

But still (from a totally selfish perspective).................... :(

Guys guys please cancel this thread - don't you know there's a no personal attacks rule on Skullbrain and guys we are going to hurt the feelings of the people who made these beautiful toys. Please guys the world is bad enough in 2020 please don't hurt any more feelings please

Glenn, there is no reason to be facetious. You, as does everyone else here, know that personal attacks are never going to be tolerated on the board. Neither is hate-speech, fear-mongering, or inciting violence. And I won't apologise for that. If you are looking for those sorts of things, you might as well go seek them in some other backwater internet forum, lorb knows there are enough of them out there. We're here to discuss silly toys. If we can have a laugh while doing so, so much the better, but this isn't about protecting some delicate nature or being overprotective - it is about common sense and respect, plain and simple. Those rules apply to everyone, and I'd expect anyone here to act with the same sort of decency they did in public. If a person wants to be a loudmouth, aggressive, compensating, chip-on-their-shoulder type, and shout inane comments in the real world - and I think we've all met them - then that's on them; but they'll probably be judged an ass just as they would be here. Your attempts to escalate this issue by diminishing it and equating it to general open discussions on the forum is muted and silly; you'll only come off as a petulant child the more you try to force it and spam the board. You were warned, fairly; let's leave it at that and get back to toy discussions.

Yes, it seemed like he starts to make sofubi because instinct toy convinced him he could sell his figures for high prices now. I think he had a bunch of sofubi DOB produced by instinct, which are all on the moma store for 650, there are still color ways available and they have been there for quite a while. A very odd approach for reaching the big dollar sofubi collectors.

I don’t like this figure, looks like one of those bad funko kaijus they tried to make. And I have no idea why he would go down the most saturated gorilla route, maybe because of the prices around Hirota.

I had to google who Murakami is. Maybe the high roller collectors will start buying his “art sofubi” and they’ll start leaving “toy sofubi” alone. One can hope.

Are you talking about Takashi Murakami? He's had toys out there since the 1990s.

Yeah but as far as I have seen all his previous toys have been 3D representations of his existing characters while this feels more like a cynical cash in.

I don't think I'm getting the "cynical cash in" part. Is it because it doesn't fit with his other designs? Or that it's a gorilla/sasquatch type thing?

Yeah maybe I’m feeling that way as it doesn’t look like it fits with his other art (which I do like a lot of) and it’s making me question the motivations behind choosing this design/style.....which might be completely unfair of me

While he made his super flat blind boxes and a few other more expensive vinyl sculptures in the past. I think he largely ignored the toy base not seeing profits there. It’s really only been the past few years he has started to heavily make expensive soft vinyl figures. He did a few figures for complexcon, opened his own shop in Nakano to sell $800 figures, and most recently has partnered with instinct on his $650 DOB kun. He had said so much in his posts that instinct toy has convinced him this is now a premium collecting market. Which makes it seem like he is mostly driven by the potential for big money.

Haha, yeah, right there with you guys, although maybe for different reasons. Most people probably don't even know what I collect on here. But I do it for myself, and not anyone else, so it's all good.
