I see two separate high bidders retracted their bids yesterday, presumably they saw the instagram warning about it being a fake ...

Its also a bit ironic that the only other item this seller has for sale is a MVH Flying Freak, that he has gone to the trouble to point out - is not a bootleg ...

'I won it from the special 2017 MVH lottery held for collectors who have never won a lottery before. This is not a bootleg as it has Since Patrol's signature vinyl marbling technique, and Science Patrol pulled these for him in Japan'.

Almost as if ebay doesn't want these sorts of dodgy dealings (of which this is only one example type) to go away. They are quite content to continue to take their cut of stolen and copied merchandise. Meanwhile all the other seller shenanigans also continue unabated on there, truly screwing over people who just want to use it as an honest marketplace. Sigh, when I think back on those early ebay days when it was just Pez collectors, and a search for 'vintage Star Wars' brought up a handful of items....

I am glad some of the bids were retracted, but really the ideal situation is that this is not allowed to be sold at all.

What's that old saying? ... Caveat Emptor - 'Let the buyer beware'.

I totally agree with what you're saying, but when buying very expensive 'collectors items' its obviously best to do your homework. I'm assuming the winner of this auction didn't do any research. Clever counterfeits aside, buying this one might of been avoided if they had done a bit of digging online, perhaps? Again, easier said than done with Japanese toys, i admit.

Yeah, in this case I was referring to more the pulling of items when a 'satisfactory' price was not met, failing to follow through with sales, backdoor dealings, ending auctions without notice, etc. There are certain sketchy bidders of course, but in terms of running a marketplace, the person with the merchandise has the final control over things and transactions. Caveat emptor certainly applies for buyer's remorse, that is on you (the buyer). But we need a matching phrase for seller's remorse, something along the lines of trade fair or we'll smash your ware(s). ;)

I guess he thought he could get one through by bootlegging a one-off since there is nothing to compare it to. Zheng's bootleg MVH Test Bite Leviathan looked pretty derpy but this one may have tricked some people if he just changed the year to 2019....

I don’t get your logic. It tricked some people regardless of the year and I don’t think a simple year change would have fooled Ishi.

Didn't say the year would have fooled Ishi. Saying that some people, myself included, saw the 2017 and thought "I thought he only sold black blanks then" so it raised an eyebrow that might not have been raised if it was listed as 2019 when he did have some one-offs.

wonder if the seller knew it was a boot? or if he got duped. you would think if he knew, maybe he would have done a BIN to move it before everyone got wise to it,

You're giving them too much credit!! These scumbags are asking big money for a fake.. I guess because it took them some extra effort to make the wooden pieces? Who knows how these wackos think

Actually I took the time to throw the caption into google translator for a glimpse into the mind of madness...

"Oh my God. Rich people, quickly get it! @全球一个"

And the caption for their wooden pieces...

"Field trips, looking for raw materials, pressing techniques, and practicing techniques. Finally the first sample came out. Although it's a bit rough, it's basically large. The future is to improve craftsmanship."

The original from the Stolenspace show a couple of years ago was around that ballpark.

Most were sold before the doors even opened.

There’s an M1 on eBay that looks extremely suspicious to me but I’m honestly unsure of posting it....the sculpt seems fine but the color/quality of the vinyl looks cheap and the paint looks....very off.

I've never seen an M1GO bootleg other than the Memorial Box Godzilla. Feel free to send it via PM.

Not sure which you are talking about, but this could just be a case of a really bad custom, where the paint totally obscures the quality of Yuji's work. aka see Dept of Ruined Toys

Not saying there aren't potential bootlegs of M1 out there. But as noted above, there just isn't the 'game' for that sort of thing to make it worthwhile. When Yuji's amazing toys used to sit around at mandarake for 3-4k yen, we aren't really talking about the same incentive as those bootlegging hypez sohfoobees and selling them for multiple thousands of dollars. :s The former of which, don't get me wrong, is an absolutely good thing.

Yeah, I looked it over and checked with Roger and nah. It’s legit so I won’t post and speculate. Still learning the ropes on collecting, 6 years in, but I’m not super knowledgeable about every M1 release(YET).

That’s good to know there is MUCH less of M1 ripoffs than I imagined. Though it’d be kind of silly...M1 does such a good job with not only the quality of the vinyl and the pulls but the paint jobs/color ways. They’re so sturdy, appealing and hearty! That’s why I was somewhat confused by the paint job on this one, I never saw anything like it, but my eye sight has been off more and more lately too.

No worries at all, I don't think it matters how many years you have in collecting. You can be six decades into this hobby at this point and still have interesting tidbits you pick up; part of why it is fun. And it never stops as more is always coming out. The CT archives (if/when they get reborn) are really invaluable with stuff like M1-Go IDs. And then of course there's the people in this community. :) Thanks @Roger

The audacity of trying to sell an "original" nag doll for 15,000 thousand US dollars on the same page where you sell your own bootlegs of that same fucking nag doll for less then 100 bucks is truly incredible.

That is hilarious! - I'd hope its intentional and they're trying to be funny, but probably not. They have no shame, and enjoy flaunting it ...

Remember when someone said we should be calling out the people who support these bootleggers?
“Kaijumonstercom” on eBay is trying to sell a “one-off GID bootleg nagnagnag.” Talk about having no shame.

Yeah, he's selling it for a few hundred bucks as well. There's also that bootleg mvh for sale on ebay. Amazingly the seller explains that this is a proven bootleg. Still a hundred a fifty bucks though.
