    Setting up in the new apartment. Most of my displays are similar to what I had before (call it moving stress and the desire to just get on with it), but I decided to solve my "too many Kumon" problem by spacing a few around the new Anraku acquisitions. Trying for a prehistoric landscape kind of vibe, with dinos and giant spiders creeping around. Not exactly a favourite yet, but I'm experimenting with how cluttered I can get it while improving the look. I think a bigger toy looming in the background, maybe a second Goga, would help tie things together. Maybe something winged hanging from the top too.

    @zindabad Great selections on that shelf! Some risers for the smaller folks in the back might help break up the background height.

    That might be the way! I'll try stacking some boxes. Less concerned with just showing off the guys in the back, more with filling space up. Maybe there's an art to minimal asymmetrical displays, but I haven't cracked it yet and just try to solve the problem with layered clutter.

    I've started using baby wooden stacking blocks! They come in cool shapes & colors and if they're visible they still look good.

    @zindabad Don't you just love it when you collect a variety of pieces, and then you find common color palettes that complement each other when put on a shelf. Look how nicely put together that top shelf is!

    Haha, absolutely! The Gargamel shelf is my favourite symmetrical display I think. I wanted to have a second setup like that to fit the rest of my standards, but it's tough to put together with my collection as it is.

    Nice assemblage there! Not cluttered at all (IMHO :)). My cases are pretty stuffed. I ended up using 2x2, 2x4, and 4x4 inch wood, cut to the exact lengths I needed. You can't even see them in my cases (ultra cluttered dime store look), and the toys stand on a continuous surface. You can even stain the wood to match your shelves, and it's very low cost.

    Risers in small case
    2x4 on base, 2x2 on top towards the back...

    Bigger case filled, towards the back on the left were some shorter figures (Rodan and Pigmon) that needed more elevation than the taller figures on the right. To remedy the heights, I placed an added shorter 2x4 on the left side

    You can see the extra wood block on the left in this side view

    A combination of a 4x4 and 2x4 blocks

    Same shelf, but the right side with the taller figures only have the 4x4 block in the back

    One thing I'm experiencing is that most of my toys have long tails, so to maximize case space, they are not aligned straight on in perfect rows, but arranged in angles to cram them all in there. I still think it looks ok ;)

    P.S. Avoid pressure treated wood, which has toxic chemicals! And please make sure the wood you are using is totally dry, so they won't leak sap (especially when exposed to the hot summer temperatures - no AC for us! :oops:), i.e. check any knot holes for sappiness :razz: I used a palm sander to sand all the surfaces and round the corners.

    "ok" :lol:

    Absolutely excellent. I love the 'dime store' look and think wood blocks might be the way; acrylic risers just end up looking strange to me with some toys. That's what I have going on a couple of shelves and want to build over time with this new one, a total layered wall of dolls that group well, with just enough space to pick out individuals.

    Also, I realised the next entry could easily be one of the Anraku Goji or the leaner Goga!

    Seeing all these great open-shelf displays makes me wanna ditch my detolfs and get some floating shelves. Definitely on my to-do list now.

    Marty Feldman effect: My right eye is fixed on Hydra (that color scheme gets me feeling drunk) and my left, on that Sphinx.
