Per the big man's latest post, SABI is indeed a Pushead design. Interesting stuff.

Anyway, it'll also be sold to the highest bidder. A certain other maker has also decided to sell directly by auction recently, and I have to say, I'm not hopeful for the future whenever that starts happening.

it sounds bad in some ways but wouldnt that also allow the fanbase to dictate pricing? it might suck at first but end up being cool for actual fans of the artwork in question!

I wouldn't call myself a hxs fan but I'm definitely a pushead fan hoping to acquire an itamu at some point, and this selling method seems to benefit nobody but the artist and the rich. He literally came up with the way to make the most money possible; by keeping each offer a secret. Even if it was an open auction, he'd make less money. Seems pretty purely profit-based decision making to me.

Who? They’ve made it an open choice, so no point dancing around it.

Sounds like a pissing-contest for the crazy rich Asians, where the depth of the pockets have a direct correlation to the bigger the fanboy!

Seems a bit shortsighted to fault someone for trying to get the most monetary value out of their work. There's no guarantee the success and popularity they've had will continue for any length of time. I'm of the opinion that most if not all artists, or any individual, producing and selling their work is pricing it such that they can make as much profit as possible without the work going unsold.
Also seems strange to be able participate in this hobby and implicitly call yourself not rich. Even spending $50 on a toy can seem opulent when compared to how most people, at least in the US, live.

This is all to say that while it feels shitty as a collector to be priced out there's not much one can do about it, it's better to enjoy what you have and can afford.

Great point, it's always important to remember that being involved in this hobby at all is a luxury

Yeah, I want to complain. But it’s hard not to feel like my criticisms (of affluent fans and sale methods) would just come off as sour grapes.

I just like to see his toys‍.:o

I’m never gonna have a grand to spend on a toy (and that would be a miraculous bargain) so I’ll just have to come to terms with that. Still think his gorillas and bots are some of the best out there.

This! One hundred percent. Burn it in your memory, fam. We are super privileged to have any cash to throw at this crap.

it is also on that same train that this is the #1 point why this isn’t Art with a capital A.

As for the lottery, I sent him my offer on DM and like any good Jordan-wearing, backwards MAWANKA-hat turning at Disney, skulls and pus addict, I lowballed it hard. ;)

I think the pushead mecha set is actually an edition of 9, that’s how it read to me. That Utsugio 1-off is nice, but another brand that was already priced out of my league.

I could be wrong but I think the 9 toys he was referring to were the numbered mecha one-offs plus one mecha battle set.

Ass kissing and deep pockets will now be solely replaced by deeper pockets yet. Meh.

No shit Sherlock? . . . The point of my post was more to enquire who the fuck are these guys and where'd they come from.

I kinda admire their brass balls from afar!

For 60,000 yen that hinged jaw better also have authentic suction action in it!

I like the tongue-in-cheek ripoff and the hinged jaw was a neat touch. Aftermarket pricing on anything that bootlegs HS, or even looks similar, is going to be whack, but the retail seems fine. And while I'm cool with waiting however many years for a real battle set to come my way, I don't think it's reasonable to expect everyone to feel the same when that day might never come.

Given that we're already in a hobby that literally exists because of increasingly extreme kaiju bootlegs, and the original MGs and gojus are a rich man's game complicated further by a growing cult mentality where no current buyer wants to sell or trade for fear of reprimand, I say bring em on. Brass balls indeed

Hate the gorilla though, I'll say that.
