Yes if that toy came out a decade ago people would have lost it. It’s interesting to see things change and evolve as people learn from what came before, for better or worse. I also think An honest reflection, removing and nostalgia would place a bunch of early and mid 2000s Japanese vinyl in this thread, that was quite popular at the time. And admittedly I have some of those toys which I enjoy for a more historical reflection or just remembering that time and enjoying it again, but the toys aren’t great in hindsight, they just didn’t have the volume in place to learn from.

Still I stuggle to really remember any Chinese makers off the top of my head outside of Planet X Asia, who’s been discussed here at length. Not saying that means all the toys are bad, just that few have done enough things or original things to really sticky themselves top of my mind, when I think about everyone who has and had made sofubi toys.

That is a great fucking point and the exact opposite is also true. This year I've seen a few longtime toy makers get waaaay more recognition and appreciation and sales with some of their older toys. Which I think is a great compliment because basically it means when the toy came out people thought it was cool but now years later with so much more stuff to compare it to people realize how cool that toy still is. In a hobby that often feels flooded with new stuff and new makers that come in hot and fizzle out shortly after it's great to see some old heads not only staying relevant but getting even more recognition these days, yourself included.

I get the feeling AND I feel a little differently for a love project made by an artist who doesn't look for anything (I think) when painting a toy he has feeling for and "professional custom painter" who are vomiting colors on perfectly nice toy, proclaiming themselves artists and asking insane prices. I mean... dude took over two years (by his account) to paint it so I see little risks of his creation inundating the market in the future. I will change my mind if we see him custom paint Kaws, Godzillas or mass produce that psychedelic Mario dude.

That said, Chris Dyer ain't my cup of tea, not that toy, not his paintings.

Sadly, when it’s a plushie it actually looks better and makes more sense. In a distorted, Muppet sort of way.

Fugly toys get posted here, so in a way he's asking for it himself by making them

Well, the maker originally joined SB solely to pimp his new toy, and then got shitty when people were honest and said they didnt like it. Then he called SB members a bunch of 'haters' and pretty much disappeared after that.

I've gone out of my way to post his fugly shit ever since. Seems fair to me.

You sir are the Grover Norquest of sofubi. We can call it the Sofubi Consumer Anti-Fallace Protection Pledge. Please go out and see how many creators you can get to to pledge not to include fallace in their sculpts.
