Members of Biden’s and Kamala’s staff now have COVID-19. What a shitshow... Biden better not get it and die before the election, I don’t know what would happen. Would Kamala have to step up and be the candidate if something happens to Biden, or would the DNC have to look for a new candidate?
America is not ready for a woman as president. It’s sad but true. So many crazy-ass people think a woman would be an incompetent leader, because they’re sexist pieces of shit. I would love to see a woman as president, but judging by how many people support Trump, an incompetent man/child with psychopathic traits, I just don’t think it’s going to happen...

IMO the best 'leaders' over the last 12 months have been women . . . Germany's Angela Merkel and the Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern, seem to be the only people that seem to actually 'follow the science', act quickly and definitively in the best interests of their respective countries populations and not worry about self-interest, what anyone else thinks or get dragged into pointless pissing contests with people that disagree.

Closer to home, even the Brit government seem to be constantly playing catch-up with whatever action the female Scottish First Minister (Nicola Sturgeon) takes!

From 6,000 miles away, a black woman President would be a welcome juxtapose to the current orange narcissistic one.

It’s just as sexist to make that statement.
Harris might be a flawed politician but her gender has nothing to do with her ability to lead. Stop believing or saying this now rather than later. It is super toxic. It doesn’t help. Fight it and anyone who believes it. To the death and with your teeth.

You’re America, we are America. Not some shitty MAGA wearing trumpist. We’re not going to survive this if we don’t reclaim what little way ahead we’ve made.

it’s a shitty country but it’s the closest to a dream we’re going to get and we need to work on it everyday. COVID or not, solidarity is our only chance

But how do you change things? Talking doesn’t work. Teaching doesn’t work. Marching doesn’t work, we just got shot, arrested, or brushed off. None of it works. And let’s not forget that 50% of the nation is okay with having a blatantly racist and sexist president. We can’t change anything. We’re virtually powerless, trying to preach equality and harmony to a brick wall. So yes, I’ll say that America is not ready for a woman for president, because 50% of people here are bigoted assholes. Unfortunately they’re part of America, and we have to deal with these disgusting specimens.

If Biden is elected, at least things can go back to normal in our government. Otherwise nothing short of full-blown riots are going to change anything, or even a coup.

Hilary Clinton won the popular vote four years ago. So were it not for an outdated utterly ridiculous electoral college system we would have a woman as president already. Right now the Democratic nominees choice for vice president is a multicultural woman and they are leading in the polls by double digits. Biden winning would not just be things going back to normal. We have never had a female VP or as far as I can recall a VP who wasn't white so getting both at once would be pretty fucking out of the ordinary.

I get that everything feels stupid and hopeless right now but Republicans wouldn't be trying every dirty trick in the book to stop people from voting if things weren't already changing. Usually voter suppression is an afterthought because not enough people vote anyway but not this time. The early voting is so scary for them right now that they are literally destroying the postal service in the entire country and openly putting up fake ballot collection boxes all around California even though the state ordered them to stop. In Texas they reduced each county to one ballot drop off location which is fine for tiny republican counties with 200 people and fucked for urban counties with millions of people. They are rushing to put someone on the supreme court with just weeks to go before the election. Trump is begging his supporters to go defend voting locations from "the bad people" and refusing to say he will leave the white house peacefully if he loses. That isn't even half of what they are doing all because they are terrified of how many people are already voting.

So before you give in to feeling powerless lets all vote and see what happens on November 3rd.

Just popping in to say I that hope everyone and their loved ones are still doing okay. It is something we all have to adjust to, and I don't think anyone's 2020 has been very great. It's been difficult, no doubt about it, but at times like this I am thankful for the good folks I've met through this place and the world of toy geekery, and while a lot of frivolous stuff - as well as some real life important stuff - has had to be put on hold during this pandemic, I can look back and appreciate where I've been. Stay safe and healthy everyone.

I sure as hell hope you’re right. I don’t know if this country would be able to hold itself together if we had another 4 years of this. :?

i'm not trusting the polls, too many closet "dump truck donny" voters. They know he's a turd, but they'll still vote for him.

Thought this thread could use a little good news

    https://www.npr.org/sections/health...ies-point-to-big-drop-in-covid-19-death-rates

“Two new peer-reviewed studies are showing a sharp drop in mortality among hospitalized COVID-19 patients. The drop is seen in all groups, including older patients and those with underlying conditions, suggesting that physicians are getting better at helping patients survive their illness.”

That’s really great to hear. We’ve had more than enough death. I really hope we have a vaccine or medication ready in Q1 2021 to lower the death rate even more.

Got a text from a friend of mine in Tokyo, said he saw a bunch of people in Inokashira Park in Kichijoji holding signs saying that COVID-19 is a lie. Wonderful.

Here in Berlin it’s really scary seeing this. Many folk feel their ‘liberties’ are being oppressed.

So my take here is that when your protest has actual neo nazis participating in it, there must be something about the message that is landing where it shouldn’t

Which "liberties" are those? I can see an argument for the right to gather. But here in the US that's not been heavily mandated or enforced - the few examples of enforcement are for the most egregious offenders. And the right to gather is only one - singular - liberty that I can see being possibly impinged.

Ah, man i really wish I had the energies. Ima say, just google it,

It’s super exhausting having these convos with folk that think a 15min YouTube video is enough to call a mask mandate totalitarian.
They’re just delusional. Again, they’re. Hanging. Out. With. Neo. Nazis. Cant say more than that to feel the point tells itself. Lol.

I will say this about these asswipes that have but only a superficial understanding of healthcare systems and their infrastructures: Americans feel their rights are being oppressed (they’re not) while Europeans feel it’s their right to decide how to go about protecting themselves (it isn’t). While in the us the relationship is to the self, over here is to the community. Same pitfalls, same agents, different patients (no pun) in these relationships.

a lot of folk haven’t lived in precarity and it really shows.

I can honestly say that even if a year or two from now the Coronavirus is no longer any threat at all I will still be wearing a mask. So many people constantly sneezing or coughing or talking super fucking loud everywhere I go. Wiping their noses than picking through the fruits and vegetables at the grocery store. Fuck all that shit. Put me in the mask for life club.

In my city it was literally illegal to wear a mask in public except on Halloween before this all happened. You want my mask now you'll have to peel it off my cold dead body. I am now an anti-anti-masker. Don't thread on me!

Yep, no joke I'm feeling that way myself. Also, you can be pretty fuckin stylish while you're at it ... I've gone for the bandana option. Its quite comfortable. I got used to it.

Just to be clear, I was being rhetorical - not actually questioning you. These people aren't even aware of what liberties are, let alone which ones are being "trampled on" (few to none).

FOR REAL! This is the silver-lining of C19. Many Asian countries have been wearing masks for decades, but you'd be looked at as a weirdo in the US for wearing a mask. I'm happy that the stigma has, largely, been broken. I won't ever fly without a mask again. If I have to go out while I have a cold, I'll be wearing a mask. It's just common fucking sense - do what you can to not spread your illness to others!

And the added benefit of rendering "no mask" laws moot, plus added privacy in the age of facial recognition, is another small silver-lining.

As someone who wears glasses, the only drawback to masks is that they fog up my vision...I expect that to get worse as we head into winter.

My mask and sweatpant selection has absolutely skyrocketed in the last 7-8 months. I’ve got surgical masks, kn95s, bandannas, gaiters, I’ll wrap a pair of my own wrinkled Hanes over my face if I have to. Even if a vaccine is safe and effective it seems like one won’t be available for a wide distribution for another 6-12 months. Masks are essential just like social distancing. And sweatpants

x10,000 Winter is already a pain in the ass, but this definitely makes it worse. I am tempted to go full-on face bubble, actually.

Looks like we are headed for another month of full-on lockdown. It's definitely needed though; last week the R rate here was nearly 3. That is bonkers!!! :| Stay safe everyone.

    https://www.bbc.com/news/health-54873105

Here’s a dose of some grand news...

“The data shows that two doses, three weeks apart, are needed. The trials - in US, Germany, Brazil, Argentina, South Africa and Turkey - show 90% protection is achieved seven days after the second dose.

However, the data presented is not the final analysis as it is based on only the first 94 volunteers to develop Covid so the precise effectiveness of the vaccine may change when the full results are analysed.”

Still a lot of work to be done but this is a giant slab of “FUCK YES!”.Even if all goes well, I don’t see general population getting access til late 2021 but light at the end of the tunnel is a very, very warm welcome imo. Still, stay the fuck home

The big question is how long will the immunity last.

I would guess the world would need yearly shots like with the flu.

That’s what my thinking is so far. Not too much data yet unfortunately. Also, logistics of storage and transportation is going to be a huge issue along with the fact that once people get the first dose they HAVE to come back for the second. There will probably be people who don’t go back for the second shot. Loads of hurdles to still overcome
