They're touring now - gonna be in brooklyn in a few weeks at Europa, which is a pretty small space and that might get brutal fast.
I never like anything much past "petitioning.." I love the feel of that album. Any suggestions of songs that I should try again post-Jane doe?
if your looking for songs with the same feel to the structures pre jane doe i don't think you're gonna get 'em off the new releases. they have just matured/progressed in the way they write songs. give the post "petitioning" albums another listen though...there are good songs on all the albums...they just have different bones.
i will never forget when i got the petitioning 7" from ferret and I heard The Saddest Day it blew me away. i don't listen to much "hardcore" anymore, but converge will always be timeless for me mainly because i was a fan since their inception and I have enjoyed & embraced their progression through the years (12+).
i got petitioning when i was 16 or something (2003ish) and it changed me forever. i haven't really been into them for a while now but i saw them in '06 and it was fucking nuts.
Converge is one of those bands, that to me stands the test of time. I still can listen to "Jane Doe" and be totally stoked on it. As far as that genre goes, I think they are the most creative band. "You Fail Me" was a pretty weird record and although I liked it, it didn't have that same feeling as their earlier records. "No Heroes" was so aggressive and angry, I loved it. This new jam sounds sick and I can't wait for the new record. My old band was lucky enough to play with them and Cave In here in Arizona a few years back. It was awesome.
Oh yeah, easily. It's weird how it really didn't go over well at all. It was insane to me how they could be such an awesome metal/hardcore band and switch over to a totally different style that was perfect. They played some of the "Until Your Heart Stops" era songs when we played with them, then a lot of the Jupiter and Antenna. It was sick, Perfect Pitch Black is also awesome.
Converge is above and beyond my favorite band. I saw them monday in Boston, and they've still got it.
