I've been working on a project for an upcoming group art show. I love Japanese kid's masks, so I sculpted something similar and paid to have vacu-formed plastic masks made. Here's a couple pics, they are not completely done yet. I was thinking it might be cool to send a few of these out to some of you guys to custom paint....
These look fantastic, your style has translated very well in this 3D form. One to paint & one to display, please!
thanks guys, I'll probably set aside about a dozen blanks, maybe for a Skullbrain art trade or somethin'.
These are great! The painted ones look like glazed ceramics. When/where is the show? I totally want one of the painted ones.
Awesome work, Jeff! I too would love to get my hands on one of the painted ones. Please let us know if / when they become available for purchase!
thanks guys. Its for Toy Karma 2 at Rotofugi. Opening night is Sept 5th. I'm gonna go and hope to see some of you guys there. The first six are just for that show, the others will be different color schemes. I have about 75 total. I want to make some up that can actually be worn as masks...with air holes and stuff Bert! They're kinda small, like kid sized. The paint is a mix of floral spray paint and testors metallic spray paint. I'm somewhat pleased with the results but would've preferred something like v-color. The finished pieces will have a clear coat. I'm also working out a way to hang them on the wall. Thank you all for the interest/encouragement, I appreciate it. There's some more pics on my flickr if you follow the link below
finished pieces, on their way to rotofugi. By the way, I'm gonna drive over from Ohio for the opening night. I hope to see some of you guys there. Thanks for the kind words, definitely encourages me to do more sh*t.
Living in Akron has done wonders for your creativity. I love masks! Please do more of these and then do one of your avatar
heheh....true, the constant cloudy skies, post industrial landscape can be inspiring I suppose....maybe it's the thrill of seeing the Goodyear blimp all the time... I do have about 60 more of these masks, I'll probably paint them different color schemes in groups of 10 and offer them for sale cheap. Again, I appreciate the positive feedback, it's truly motivational.
The mask are just great!!! Really like the one's w/ the eyes looking in diff directions. Also what an over the top idea for the TKII show. Man that's some crazy initiative!!! Don't recall if I ever commented on the Akron thing? I got excepted to Pratt, but the ol' man wasn't having it so it was "Hello University of Akron". Go Zips!! (A Kangaroo in Akron in the snow WTF!?!) We went to Cleveland for good times.
I dig the masks, would also jump at the change to paint one. As for Akron, I went to Kent State (89-94), saw some great bands from the kent/akron area (Sockeye, D.I.M, Hyper As Hell)
They look so nice all painted up. I can't wait to see what other color schemes you come up. I am all over this! Masks are something that I have always been fascinated with, since I was a kid. Mix them with kaiju and your style and I'm in. Incidentally, I showed a friend of mine some of your prints that I own and she loved 'em. I really wish I wouldn't have missed out on some of the others that were for sale.
thanks guys. My wife went to Akron U and now Kent, she works there too. I missed out on most of the area punk bands as I moved to Pittsburgh when I was 17, later joined the Army then came back to Ohio. I still go to shows, all the best ones are in Cleveland though. Just saw the Re-Volts a few nights ago and Duane Peters Gunfight a few weeks ago... Akron's not so bad..we have mostly all the same stuff as bigger cities, just not as much. Speaking of the Re-Volts, I have a new silkscreened print up available here: http://www.gigposters.com/classifieds/d ... 9684&pre=1 looks like this:
That print is fantastic! Love the critter. Is that one of the colossal abandoned tire factories? Those thing go on for days!!!! I think the place we'd see music locally was the Agora???
