Wow, interesting. That is most definitely the 25th Anniversary Bandai reissue of the figure, and yet the asking price, wowsers. Usually these sell for 4-6k yen. I want to say this could be a mistake, but in any case I don't really expect anyone to be 'duped' by this listing, as the paint scheme itself is different from the vintage (even beyond looking new).

For reference, here is the foot mark, side by side with the way it should look (unaltered):

left = auction figure, right = Bandai version with anniversary sticker and company printed stamp

Beautiful toy, but I have to say - and this might well seem like sacrilege to many - I just don't like mechanical guts or removable masks on my Ultrahero dolls. Totally ruins the fantasy that they just look that way. They're not robots, or soft, fleshy and decently quaffed humanoids in battle suits, they're an exceedingly tall race of silver and red super beings with an odd predilection towards helping out the coastal Earth Asians.

I dunno. I met Zoffy and his little brother when I was pretty young. Left an impression.

@toothaction Unfortunately I did not grow up with these super heroes, but I understand your point perfectly, for my part I will let the child inside me speak: aesthetically I like it a lot, I think it combines several things that I like about a toy, that is transparent and mechanic, for some strange reason I am attracted to everything that is transparent, robotic and if it has a removable helmet much better and this figure combines all this.
The only thing that would discourage me from adopting a specimen of these would be the price, but you never knows with patience and a bit of luck everything can be possible.

Believe me you, I'm pro gimmick! Apply any of those tricks and traits to just about any other hero out there and I'm all in, it's just that I'm strangely conservative when it comes to my First Family. Oddly enough, though, transparent Ultras with a twisted up pipe cleaner inside get a full pass. Pretty sure my inner toddler reads it as a representation of the nervous system, ha!

There is nothing in this world, from ages 4 to 11, that I wanted than an Ultraman doll and a monster or 12 for him to fight. Too bad no such things existed in '76. Heh.

Related sidebar: I also had a bit of a problem with the otherwise awesome Godzilla toy that every boy but me seemed to have around the time; his power fist seemed way more to me as an instant amputation feature than a potent weapon! Mazinga? Sure. I'll not just allow it but I'll encourage it, too! On a giant, mutated lizard, though? A bridge too far!!!!

    Cripes. I was/am/shall be a dork's dork. Carry on.

In general it is an unusual piece or at least they are not seen so often for sale, here the strangest thing is that both appeared at the same time and the auctions ended almost at the same time, the last piece was extended for hours because when they were missing minutes to finish a new offer entered.

Wow, any Pharaoh is something nice to behold, but to see a complete one in fair condition is a real treat, BUT two?? Incredible. And I am not surprised at all by the prices on these; stiff competition for a sought after piece. That latter one especially is the cleanest condition I have ever seen on one of these. I have seen new toys with more ageing and wear, I am really impressed. Thanks for capturing these Roger, they are real beauties. And for all that, ones which I really have to admire these photos of, because it is likely the closest I will come to one.

Its crazy to see the giant Pharaoh ever, let alone two in one week. The less expensive (ha) one seems to have a cape from one of the giant Tigermask vinyls instead of the correct one, not that it really matters when you get into this level of silly rarity.

    Hey, it's Josh!! :D

I was thinking this too. Both the colour and the cut are noticeably different from the second version. The button could conceivably just be reversed in this case, but I don't think that is what's happening. But having seen so few caped versions, I definitely was not certain as to whether Marusan might have had a few different forms of the accessory they added to the toy during the production period. As you rightly pointed out though, the full/original version naturally commands a premium, but to secure any giant Pharaoh is an incredible treat. I salute the new - and I am sure very proud - owners of both of these toys.

I could be wrong, but I think is one - and admittedly high in the running for top - of the Marusan originals lineup. So not based on any particular show or art that I immediately know of (but certainly could be). You can see him [regular version] in this colour pamphlet Jim shared previously:

Certainly incredibly creative and unique design, ans I love him. It is also unfortunately one of the few characters Marusan has yet to reissue in some form.

Yeah, it is a manga character called Norakiro Tobiru (のらくろとびだす). Here are I believe the cover illustrations for the first issues:

Marusan did several versions of the figures (as you can see), each with a tool of some kind in hand, but by far my favourite one is of this guy with the little dino toy he can hold (as seen above in the very bottom right):

I just adore that little guy, so much pachi to love. :)

The Marusan toy is indeed an original character (no show), named Ultra Saturn.

@deafmetal Mark that pachi have the same legs and arms that the Mazinger Pachi, they use the same mold but with red vinyl.
I was watching that Twin Tale too, the color looks different to me, but I have the doubt, thanks for posting.

Another pretty interesting one from a few days back. Bullmark jumbo sized Goranger Aka Ranger (red ranger), with removable mask. Ended at a somewhat staggering 451,000円:

Farily decent shape example, including his cape and belt. A heck of a toy, to be sure.

I believe Marusan only made two in this king-size line. They are almost 20 inches tall. Pretty rare, they show up every couple of years. This one from a few years ago sold for almost $5k so I think its safe to say this is the more desirable color.
