simple look into rich profile would let you know that his rendition of the Kougai... KakuMON was indeed produced.
Yes I did some searching and found out about things. I only post questions to get a conversation going again, since being a new guy, I got lots of enthusiasm and like conversations. Cold bucket of water in my face was not what I am looking for. Most of the guys on here are pretty cool. that being said, glad this thread is alive and well.
are you guys really that upset about a 5 year thread being bumped there's not much going on here these days. Guy bought a toy and posted a pic of it Anyway that red 2hb is very cool
I don't think anyone is upset, just annoying to see an old thread dug up for a non-update, i.e., a discussion of a totally different figure and a photo with the 2-head. If you're going to post in old threads, I'm expecting news, new info, thought-provoking discussion, etc. (Also, why the back-to-back posts? This isn't Twitter. Consolidate please.) That said, I thought there was another Bemon thread in the Japan Toys forum and it looks like there is not, so I guess this is where you would post about Bemon stuff. So I take back my comment in part.
Some old stuff ate it when the board got a facelift, no? Iuno, is bemon still making toys? It was already a premium brand to collect back when lamour was making prints of it.
Yeah he’s still making toys. But lot less frequently. And when he does it’s been that lockness monster looking toy with the massive hole in the bottom ( why o why didn’t he make it with a plug) . But I’ve seen kougai pop up from time to time I think maybe new although I never truly know.
He still releases older Kougai, Space Monster and some Sea Monster from his personal YJA page. I recently saw what I think is a newly painted run of Kougai, only ‘cause I’d never seen it before. I don’t think he’ll ever reuse the 2HBemon molds again, but the Sea and Space Monsters are very, very here and there.
Yep, the blue ones. He sold at least three, maybe more from that run of 15 Kougai on his official YJA page (metallic blue with red and gold paints on a thick fleshy base vinyl). Which is consistent with how he sells new releases on YJA I think? Some others popped up on the secondary as well in quick succession. I feel fairly certain it’s a new run. I ended up scoring one, I’ll post pics soon. 2HB’s are cool, but kougai are still my favorite Bemon toy.
I’d agree on it being my favorite of his and possibly best toy of all time to me. Post pics please once you get it, love to see more !
@Rich Lee got to it before I did, but yes, that one! Though I think it’s more of a hot/fluorescent pink than it is red. But that metallic blue is fuckin’ bangin’. I thought the base was the pink until I saw the tips of the hands bein’ the flesh color. I know a lot of his friends get first dibs on the runs, which is why he only sells between one and three himself. @Michael Beverage I’m genuinely jealous as shit you got a hold of one of those, dude. Very much lookin’ forward to whenever you can get some photos up! Congrats!!!
@Michael Beverage - nice grab! I have been watching those auctions as well. As Robert just mentioned, I also thought the metallic blue on flesh vinyl looked killer and is a classic color combo. Looking forward to seeing more photos. Although there are quite a few abandoned forum threads in the Japan Toys section, there is a 56-page photo thread of Bemon Kougai and also some 2HB here.
Me and Charlie were talking the other day and the non plugged sea monster is very reminiscent of the vintage ikb crawling hedorah. Maybe a tribute of sorts
@gazpacho I’m still amazed and perplexed as fuck about how that monster pulls from that huge ass opening without tearing coming out of the mold. Same thing with the IKB Crawling Hedorah.
Totally possible. But for me astetically I can’t get over it yet. I really like the toy, and his paints on this have been just amazing and inspirational. I’ve yet to get any of the newer sculpts, but will at some point.
The way the toy is sculpted a plug would affect the way toy sits. It’s a really fun toy in hand and I still can’t figure out how they cast the thing. It’s really the coolest one part toy I own.
