Was interviewed a couple of weeks ago by a reporter for a local business paper, Business World, on the topic of "designer vinyl" collecting. Ended up injecting some inputs on Japanese sofvi collecting. The article consist of other interviews with a designer vinyl shop owner, and two other toy collectors here. One of which is the sister of a fellow boardie, xpollardx, Aiee.
hahaa. so awesome Jay. I told my wife's relatives that we were friends and they freaked out. they want your autograph.
Yes, its a fake one--I drew it on the photo out of boredom from the hospital. I don't know, there's still a world of confusion with regards to distinction between designer vinyl toys and the toys that most of us collect here. Probably the endless collabs. with a host of different western artists, I am not sure. I am just too happy to have my 15 minutes of fame, and of course, a newspaper's interest on putting it out in the public. But seriously, there are no "kaiju" scene here. No stores locally, nothing. Some western stuffs trickle in via FRESH MANILA and Vinyl on Vinyl both owned and run by friends. Heavily dependent on on line stores.
The first one was an interview I did for a home magazine--tv? yeah, local tv, I've done a couple, but the conversation dwell on toys I collect in general.
Thanks for the link. My favorite line: "According to some art critics, designer toys are 99% hype and 1% talent." F*ck art critics! I hate that whole pompous scene
Awesome Jay! Couldn't read the whole article though. I get so annoyed at journalists focusing on prices and getting their facts all messed up.
