Mandarake prices have become literally absurd. Still love the toys and maker but wow. If you don't get lucky there is no way to own one.

I have to agree. With a lot of toys it is pretty much out of the gate or not at all these days. Not that I don't love the access that Mandarake (and, to a lesser extent, YJA) provides, but with the even larger blowup of this hobby the past few years, and more and more people jumping on the 'art toy' bandwagon, soft vinyl figures are getting to be ever more unaffordable in the aftermarket, at least for those of us without a massive disposable income. It is an unfortunate aspect I think we have grown to deal with, if not accept.

Yeah I should have known, but it's impossible to find a decent price on there. I don't really even look anymore. I got a Zangira on there for 120 6 months back, and that was it. Now the same toy is 200, and any MVH is like 500 to 1000. It's ebay. Worse.

Haven't we all seen bubbles and crashes in other parts of the toy market?

Tulip mania or tulipomania (Dutch names include: tulpenmanie, tulpomanie, tulpenwoede, tulpengekte and bollengekte) was a period in the Dutch Golden Age during which contract prices for bulbs of the recently introduced tulip reached extraordinarily high levels and then suddenly collapsed.[2]

At the peak of tulip mania, in March 1637, some single tulip bulbs sold for more than 10 times the annual income of a skilled craftsman. It is generally considered the first recorded speculative bubble (or economic bubble),[3] although some researchers have noted that the Kipper- und Wipperzeit episode in 1619–22, a Europe-wide chain of debasement of the metal content of coins to fund warfare, featured mania-like similarities to a bubble.[4] The term "tulip mania" is now often used metaphorically to refer to any large economic bubble when asset prices deviate from intrinsic values.[5]

When I overpay for a toy, I do it with full knowledge of the inherent folly of my actions.
Unfortunately that doesn't make me any less stupid.

Let's not forget that Tulip Mania was highlighted in the movie "Wall Street 2".

This is the greatest bubble story of all time… they call it the Tulip Mania.”- Gordon Gekko

I never liked the unsavory character of Gordon Gekko, but it's undeniable that there's hidden wisdom in the aforementioned quote regarding bubbles that rise and burst.

That is one crazy toy. The 'bronzing' and the blood, along with the weathered nature of the wraps; I have not seen many figures with this kind of realism achieved in paint. I can recognise how incredibly it is, even if it is not my personal taste.

Well, I am glad to see the money go directly to Hirota at least. Hopefully these kinds of things can go a long way to financing more production on 'lesser' runs for the average collector. It is actually a decent system, those with deep pockets get to play in the 'art' game, while more standard figures can be available in greater number to the masses by lottery. Hirota's is not a perfect model maybe, but it works, and for that I am happy.

Anyone care to share some pics here for all us in the dark, rather than just this winking and nudging?
