Just stumbled across this great Japanology episode focused around Yokai. Lots of stuff in here that I think we can all relate to in terms of our appreciation for Japanese Characters / Sofubi etc
It was on this day in 1969 that Stanley Kubrick filmed NASA astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin left their Apollo 11 capsule and began their history-making walk on the moon. In light of [yet another] 'documentary' on the subject, I think it is fitting we salute this monumental achievement in human history. So raise you glasses of tang, and 'here's how!' Mandatory: And a 'happy anniversary' to all you conspiratorial nutters out there!
Dude, everyone knows there is no moon. Humans are the only one's that see it cuz we were programmed to by aliens in history. Sometimes animals are even smarter that people...
"I'm going to bake a cake in the shape of the Moon blowing up." Two pages of SB bliss in the face of bunk.
I was actually going to mention it in that thread, but the pain and idiocy of the whole banning fiasco (and what it subsequently did to the board) was too much to bring up to the forefront once more.
Oh! I'm in the US and I've been getting pretty deep into certain British sitcoms for a while (I just finished Garth Marenghi and I'm currently watching Peep Show); I keep sharing clips and talking about this stuff but no one here seems to give a flying f*ck. Anyway, carry on, this is just the equivalent of child pointing when he sees a shiny penny.
^I think it was about 10 years ago I used to listen to this talk radio station. On Saturday or Sunday nights in the middle of the night they used to let these punk rock kids come in and do a punk show for about four hours or however long they wanted to go. They where kind of geeky "intellectual"-type punks, probably in their early 20s. Anyway, the kind of patter they used to do between music sets sounded EXACTLY like the commentary on that Nautilus video. Except less scientific and more punk.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Je_njpb5AoA I've always wondered if those giant clams produced pearls, they do! http://www.elitereaders.com/giant-pearl-philippines/ http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...llion-kept-bed-TEN-YEARS-good-luck-charm.html That's going to make one humdinger of a necklace
Can't resist this one, especially for all geologists.... Japanese Museum of Rocks that look like human faces http://www.thisiscolossal.com/2016/11/the-japanese-museum-of-rocks-that-look-like-faces/
That is fantastic, Grace! Thanks for sharing! (also, it is good to know I am not the only one constantly picking u rocks because they look like something, seriously, it is a problem -_- ) Now I need to spend the day out there rock collecting.
Same problem. Threw away a shed full of rocks, half rotten wood etc when we moved ... saved it 'cuz "it looked like" whatever I was on about at the time. Cool to see a museum display of it though; thanks Grace!
Feather stars would make spiffy kaiju... Ok, here's the lecture... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crinoid
The next time you are visiting Namibia, don't forget to go see the world's largest meteorite (found to date that is!) Approximately 9 ft x 9 ft x 3 ft., weighing in at a whopping 60-66 tons. The curious thing, is that it did not leave an impact crater. A farmer found it while plowing the fields. It has been whittled away at, for scientific tests, and by souvenir hunters! Just picked up a classic book, "I Am A Cat" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Am_a_Cat by the Japanese writer Natsume Sōseki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natsume_Sōseki A very nice easy leisurely read, but I also found the audio books.... Best version (viz, reader sounds nicer, and subtle background sound effects) Partial (seems to be missing part 2 ) Full Version
