When I visited Hiroshima in 2008 I found a tiny, old and cluttered record shop, inside was a whole shelf dedicated to (and labeled) 'The Bristol Sound' with albums from Massive Attack, Tricky, Portishead and Smith & Mighty etc. It made me smile at the time to see my home city's music being promoted in a dusty forgotten corner of Hiroshima. I would guess the owners of the shop knew Naoki.
Sad news to hear this Moog. Iijima-sama seems like a standup and passionate dude, what more could you ask for from someone running a record shop. I love that he had a niche he greatly dug, and went all out with it. I am sure if you could have visited his shop you would have quickly been enveloped in a lengthy and engrossing conversation, which probably would have quickly spread to the wee hours at a local izakaya. While I am not super familiar with the scene, I respect what he did. Condolences to all the fellow music lovers and musicians, in Japan, Bristol, and wherever they may be; may people continue to be united by a love of good things.
That Bristol scene, an absolute mainstay for proper underground music. My favorite record store, Idle Hands is in Bristol, really cool he had a whole selection dedicated to it. Some of the best electronic artists ever came out of that city. Sad news, lots of respect coming from Kahn and Pinch.
