This Spiru Sejin was set to come out in 2007 but was cancelled in I remember correctly...

I guess it's supposed to look like Spell-seijin from Ultraseven?

I thought it was mini Maddala...

Isn't this an old magazine page? Maybe that was an early Madalla design from S-K. Definitely not the mini or the full size.

Along with the sores, his face is very similar to Spell Sejin. When I purchased the glow version of the big Madalla about a month ago which I thought looked like Spell Sejin as well, I asked SK if it was a homage or inspired by him but never received a reply.

This version on HH does look like Alien Spiru.
But I always thought Madalla was a reference to Alien Meits from Return of Ultraman.
Here's a pic of Marmits version of Alien Meits.

    I remember that.
It was my first time in japan at Super festival and wanted it but it was canceled/pulled.

The Madalla also reminds me of Brando beat up in "On the Waterfront".
More pics on my flickr and site.

That "Banned" episode is weird enough.

I just want the Hyakume Building!

Who makes that toy? And is it actually licensed?

The new toy from the magazine is by Shikaruna. The one in Paul's pic was an omake (bonus gift figure) from Zollmen.

The building is a legend in itself and certainly one of the best Omake ever made. It's called Hyakumado (but I would not dare teach you any Japanese word ;) )

That building is iconic. And I thought it was a space capsule when I first saw it with the Zollmen MB set.
Anyone knows why that episode with Alien Spiru (Spell) was banned? Was it during the UltraSeven series?

So my curiosity was really peaked regarding the hyaku mado building.
I dug up some info and pics on a few sites. Evidently it was not only used in Ultraseven episode 12, but also on the Kun Chibira show. See pics below.

    More here

I also found an article that I hope I'm understanding correctly, states that it was an actual building near the Toho Studios. Hyaku mado or "one hundred windows" (25 on each side ) was home to several artists or part of the Tsuburaya studio? The building was later demolished to make way for condominiums.
    More here.
Hopefully I'm not repeating what folks already know or have posted already.
This is all new, fun info to me.

That Zollmen Omake 100 eyes building and the Spiru Seijin are the greatest freebies ever.

    That reminds me....

The Spell-seijin episode of ULTRASEVEN was banned because of the nature of the aliens. They come from a world ravaged by nuclear war, hence the hideous scars. A Hiroshima/Nagasaki survivors group got wind of this and protested against Tsuburaya, who pulled the episode. It was never aired again, and Tsuburaya has prevented it from appearing in any home video versions. It did, however, appear in the English dub of ULTRASEVEN that aired on WTBS.

I've seen it, it's really no better or worse than the other episodes in the series, and the monster doesn't look like it was supposed to be referencing the victims, but what do I know. Hiroko Sakurai from ULTRA Q and ULTRAMAN appears in it (playing a character other than the ones she did in those two series). When she was here for the Asian Fantasy Film Expo I made her a copy. She was ecstatic, since she'd never actually seen the episode (she missed the original airing).

As far as I know, Tsuburaya will not license Spell-seijin for toys or any other merchandise (including SD finger puppets). The Zollmen toy Paul posted doesn't look much like it, now that I'm checking it out again.

    Hey Roger!

The Zollmen Omake has stars on its body that I think represent the sores/scars on the original character. Also, it has gloves and boots. I think it's just supposed to allude to the original character, but it's not exact.

The building was given away as an omake with the Mad Baron and the Spiru inspired mini came with the GID Zudon. So, I think it was left up to the fans to make the connection and put the 2 together, making the reference to the original character stronger.

Has there been any further development on this guy? There were a few unpainted versions floating around but all gone in a flash. Seems to be between 9 to 10".

Yeah, but then again the pics were kinda crappy. It says "not for sale" on the header. Wondering how they got them. The ones on the web are painted Madalla and a mini Madalla.

It'll be cool to see a painted version of Salama (that seems to be the name given)

Shilaruna Koubou has started a "club" and the unpainted Salama was the premium for joining.

A friend made a DVD for us of all the appearances of the Hyaku Mado building on TV shows and in movies. There is a ton of Chibira Kun scenes.
