I just had Tacos de Cabeza last night from a a taco truck here in Philly. Great stuff. Pretty much whenever I order something like that, they (be it Mexican taco truck, Malaysian Restaurant, etc) always hesitate and try to explain it to me. "you know the duck tongue is... duck tongue... right?" (I took this at Sakura, in Chinatown Philly): )
Aaaaaaaaand we have a winner. That looks horrifying. What does it taste like? What's the texture like? The only "weird" thing I used to eat on a regular basis as a little kid was onion and cheese sandwiches. Kraft slices, sliced raw onion, white bread. That's it. I don't know if it was actually good, or it was all I could manage outside of PB&J when I was 6.
Sort of like squid- and much like squid they have a piece of either cartilage or bone in the middle that you have to slide out when you eat them. But the taste is worth it.
tacos de lengua, buche, tripa, cachete, cabeza and sesos are actually not hard to find in california (thank goodness!), although not as good as the ones in mexico, of course.
Duck tounge, now there's a new one. here's a couple, I'm sure nobody's gonna list, both part of my regular diet. Shilajit Shilajit can and has been described as 'mineral oil', 'stone oil' or 'rock sweat', as it seeps from cracks in mountains due to the warmth of the sun, mostly. Every time I'm over at one of my best friends' house, we always get a "Sweetza" from Papa John's. Basically, a pizza with the Light Sauce or No Sauce setting, bacon, and as much Extra Cheese/4-Cheese Blend as we can convince them to put on it. What results is the greasiest, most fattening pizza on earth. One or two slices is enough for someone with a giant appetite.
