As most people know, Double Punch is hosting the Heteromorphism Show Saturday night as curated by Dream Rockets. Junichi Yajima-san of Dream Rockets is coming in person and there is quite a line up of artists exhibiting their toys.

    Am I that predictable?

    (Yes, yes I am.)

I can't believe that it's been nearly two years since the last show with Dream Rocket & co. at Double Punch.

Look forward to seeing the usual suspects.

It's not every day that an old Dream Rocket fan gets to meet Junichi Yajima-san. 8)

Wow, Yajima-san is a rockin' cool dude. So much enthusiasm and energy. Mark Nagata explained that there was no translator in the house but with a lot of manic gesturing I was able to convey that I love Dream Rocket, and Yajima-san taught me how to pronounce "Gillmos" correctly. 8)

Lighting wasn't optimal so most of the photos I took turned out poorly, but here are a few that are semi-acceptable. I'll post more to my Flickr account tomorrow if I can clean them up a bit.

Painting demo tomorrow at 2pm (Sunday). akum6n's last chance cause the question of the weekend has been "Where's Daniel?"

Hey Bert, sorry I missed ya last night. If anyone is going to the painting demo, photos or videos would be appreciated by many on the board, I'm sure.

Was indeed wondering where you were Dean.
Guess we just got there too late.
And yea, ultimate question was where's Daniel!?
But cool little show, Yajima-san was rad as always.

This Gibaza was definitely my favorite custom from the show.
I like the dry brush technique used w/ the fading of all the colors.

Here's another detailed example of that dry brush technique.

And the Sea Kraken set by Koko Mahi is pretty rad, especially for the price.

This little painted Fishman was rad.

Fantastic photos as usual, Joe, and thanks for the info on the dry brush technique.

Yeah, I got there early and left a little before 7. Made the error of getting on the 30 Stockton line, the slowest in SF, which then got hit by an SUV in the middle of Chinatown so everyone had to get off and walk. If I'd stayed at the show later, I would have gotten home sooner. A night to remember in many ways.

So sad I wasn't able to be there for this show.
I did however have the pleasure of meating Yajima-san on another occasion. :D

Yajima-san posted about the show at his Dream Rocket blog with thanks to "San Francisco friend." Looks like he lifted some of our Flickr photos, haha! :D

This one is one of my favorites posted on Mark Nagata's twitter:

It was after he ate dinner at Mel's in SF on the first night of his visit to SF, and before a smoking break outside with the Jumping Brain creator. You can see here he is focused on food after almost getting lost at the airport earlier:

He is a real nice guy, in addition to being a great artist and sculptor and toy maker. I will post a picture of a sketch I got while he was in town later.
