Here are pics of the piece I did for the Toy Karma 2 show this weekend. "BAT-TLE ROYALE!" ( Batman vs Gojira ) Gouache on wood 14" x 14" More detailed pics here; http://www.flickr.com/photos/97049254@N ... 020859127/
I love it!!! King Kong & MechaG watching the throwdown on the sidelines and enjoying their favorite snacks
somebody should get with you and make a nice giclee' print of this...I love it. I've never painted with gouache although I recently bought a set. It seems like the coverage is similar to one-shot sign paint...solid all the way through...am I right? Mind if I ask what you used for the black shading and stuff? again, this is awesome...a bunch of my favorite things in one place!
Now Ralph is going to be all big headed and I'm going to have to bring him back down to reality tomorrow. Thanks a lot guys. Oh, and this looks amazing in person.
Thanks to everyone for the kind words. I love combining eastern and western characters and Batman and Gojira are my favorites, so this was a blast to do for the TK2 show. @ Greasebat...Gouache is basically opaque watercolors. They can go on really solid or opaque, but can also be thinned with water, either way gives you a matte finish. If you want a more shiny finish you can mix gum arabic but depending on the color, it's not always consistent. If you don't protect the finished piece behind glass, like watercolors usually are, you can spray varnish a matte or glossy finish and not have to worry about glass. However, the glossy finish makes your colors richer but it can alter colors a bit as well. To get the black shading on the edges, I basically used the ole dry brushed technique.
This is so friggen cool!! The inclusion of other art forms in TK2 is making for one interesting event. Great work here!
