Just playing around...I love cheap old junky horror comics, these are a few of my favorites.. (Man i need a new camera! )
cult/camp comics now that is some good shit, a little obscure but boris the bear is some good og darkhorse, cheesey action comedy with a robotic bear
If you haven't picked it up, the new incarnation of "Creepy" put out through Dark Horse is a must. It harkens back to those awesome old Warren and E.C. horror books.
I'm going to be letting go of a pretty large collection of old Dark Horse Presents and Dark Horse Comics soon, if anybody collects them. Bunch of random stuff too. I didn't think it was appropriate to list a couple hundred comics in a vinyl toys sales thread, so I figured I'd just make a general mention of it on here before tossing them all on eBay.
For something new...(i guess it counts as a comic, i got it at my local comic shop) In case anybody missed this, this Danzig lyric book just came out... I'm only into the Misfits/ Samhain years, not really into newer Danzig...But this release was actually very cool it's got pictures drawn for each song... It's the first time he has done anything that has anything to do with Misfits/ Samhain since the toys, I think...
I'm on #9 of the Walking Dead Trade Paperbacks and I need to get the last couple so bad, it's great. I liked the Goon but haven't read it for a long time I think Black Hole is my favorite Comic ever. Other Charles Burns comics are also really good, but Black Hole is perfect. And Joe Lansdale's The Drive In is fucking awesome!
This Fever titled Spidey new mini serie title as amazing art Story and art by Brendan McCarthy who did this great comics years ago, The colors in the Spidey comic are very Lamour Supremesque. Check that out Joel, you'll love it.
^^ thanks for the heads up... heard this was coming out a few months... brendan mccarthy is one of my all time favorites. just re-read rogan gosh a few months back... classic.
Rogan Gosh was fantastic. I remember when it ran in Revolver. I was really happy when Vertigo smacked it all together.
some more great recent kirkman books that are worth checking out: Image United does the whole "universe" spin on the image super-hero world with characters that no one has really cared about in years. Haunt sounds pretty good too. haven't read it yet, the first 6 issues are on the way to my house right now. kirkman, mcfarlane, capullo, & ottley doing a super-hero horror book. i since i am diving into the realm of image super-heroes. liefeld is doing a "ultimates" style spin on Brigade starting in June. i'm kind of excited about that. aside from liefeld's drawing flaws, i've always thought that the extreme universe had more potential than a series of variant covers binding together a bunch of story-less splash pages....
^^^^^ Your going to love Haunt. It's funny in that "Oh my! Did he just rip that guys head off" sort of way. The writing is pretty good so far and the drawing is top notch. Thumbs up for best drinking, smoking, fornicating. eviscerating monster priest in comics. Heads will roll!
re reading: house of M and planet hulk (although i'm not a fan of hulk, i like seeing him pummel superheros) would also recommend
boris the bear rules. all the old B/W dark horse stuff was so sweet: mr. monster, concrete, flaming carrot etc
I stopped by the local shop for some free comics....managed to come away with a Jim Woodring comic called Weathercraft and other unusual tales...which was printed for today. It was an unexpected score. =)
In Seattle, Jim Woodring was at Fantagraphics shop signing these (plus his other stuff). Pretty nice preview - definitely going to get the full meal deal of Weathercraft when it comes out in a week or so.
It's out. Very troubling book. Can't say I understood it all .. A couple of characters in this would make great toys ! Also I think it's the best thing he did since Like A Velvet Glove Cast In Iron. I'm glad I did continue to follow him, just for this.
I kill Giants is fantastic I read Invincible, Fables, and the Walking Dead. Took a year off and just now getting back into it. Being current on comics kills me because I can't wait a month for the next issue.
Whoa, looks like my shelves. I love my art book, comic book, graphic novel collection, but it makes moving a total nightmare...
Tip of teh comics hat to you sir. Your collection is what mine might have looked like had I never moved, or sold off stuff. Bravo. My favs right now are CF's "Powr Mastrs", Wilson, Art Out of Time (dont have the new sequel yet!), Afrodesiac, Amphagory II, Ball Peen Hammer, and Guy Davis' 'The Marquis'
the new Second Coming arc going through all of the x-men titles right now is pretty damn good (even though i abandoned Marvel long ago, the x-titles keep my interest). and i've been a sucker for the 1:25 variants, i love david finch!
