Re: Funko Sofubi?!?!? Kind of sucks though when you search the #sofubi tag on Instagram and half the posts are of Funkos. It makes it hard to get my daily fix of toy photos to drool over.
Re: Funko Sofubi?!?!? Next time your in the area, Pepes is on me, as long as you can stand putting up with me for the meal
Re: Funko Sofubi?!?!? The day some of us were dreading has finally come.. I like to check #sofubi on my lunch breaks to see what people are getting in the mail etc. Look at this shit. I guess there's always #kaiju.. oh, wait.. At least #sofvi is safe.. for now
Re: Funko Sofubi?!?!? Nothing is sacred. The part that bothers me the most is that Funko tagged #sofubi on their original post. Pisses me off.
Re: Funko Sofubi?!?!? I liked searching that tag too on ig. Its definitely getting junked up though. Maybe we could come up with a skullbrain tag or something? ...or just post pictures on the board?
Re: Funko Sofubi?!?!? I'll be using that tag too from now on. I'm disappointed, yet not surprised that Funko is tagging their toys as #sofubi. They're just trying to make money money money.
Re: Funko Sofubi?!?!? Couldn't have said it better. I just picked up a Batman on my break as a vendor at a local convention this past weekend. I'm a sucker for glitter vinyl, and for $25.00, it was hard to resist. Having purchased a few Pop! figures in the past, I wanted to see what Funko was able to accomplish. The quality? The vinyl feels solid, looks & feels similar but smells a bit different when compared to authentic sofubi. The paint however is subpar. I shuffled through about 6-7 different boxes and all of them had noticeable paint flaws-I guess it's expected when they're done at this scale (3000 was the count for the variant I purchased). I find the increased price(s) for more "limited" models is hardly warranted considering there's probably no noticeable difference in quality. I noticed some Ninja Turtles on the shelves whose heads were depressed either from heat or overall poor QC-no good. I agree the frustration expressed here regarding the sofubi hashtag and misrepresentation of the medium/culture is well warranted given the outcome of this product line, but it's not the end of the world. We can only hope the word association will, and it very well may diminish over time. I don't know if Funko took a cue from any particular community, but the word "sofubi" is actually nowhere to be found on the packaging and/or contents of the figure. Given the assumed demographic, I don't know how well these will sell or how long the product line will last. I think we're going to witness another KFGU on a larger scale (I believe another member here may have previously suggested this outcome).
Re: Funko Sofubi?!?!? Has anyone noticed that bootleg Funko Hikari has recently flooded the Bay (loose, seller in China, oddly missing some parts, over 10 available... Pretty obvious signs) and am I going to hell for finding this hilarious?
Re: Funko Sofubi?!?!? The Funko Hikari Figures below are from Toy Tokyo's 2014 "Super Exclusive" Halloween Party: ^ WHITE BONE DEMON (Pyro Version). ^ GENERAL KU LOU TOU (Abyss Version). ^ JIANG SHI THE SHERIFF (Trick or Treat Version). ^ KAPPA (Bloody Red Version). ^ MYTHICAL CREATURES & LEGENDS: DRAGON KING (Bloody Red Version). (Images pulled from Angry Koala Gear - http://www.angrykoalagear.com/2014/10/toy-tokyo-x-funko-hikari-super.html) What're yall's thoughts on this new direction?
Re: Funko Sofubi?!?!? No thanks.. It's like somebody who read all of those "How to Draw Manga" books took their flat lifeless drawings and made vinyl toys out of them
Re: Funko Sofubi?!?!? I actually kind of like them. Just kidding! They fucking suck! HA, HA, HAAAAAA!
Re: Funko Sofubi?!?!? Man, these poor toys are getting destroyed. I've seen a few indie toys that are way worse than these and got praise from some folk here just because it was some chump sending money to Jpn to get them done. These are bad, but they are getting a lot of folk into the hobby and I find value in that. If they jack the hashtag and make your morning coffee breaks long that sucks, but you obviously don't remember collecting pre-IG. I got to sofvi via a lot of work and Mexican bootlegs and even then it took mea while to find SB. I would've killed to have the troves of info IG and places like SB give. Funko is making a killing with their cheap Chinese vinyl and poor QC, but they are doing some good in al the bad we perceive. Now, if you got here via KR (as a lot of people here did) and left it because you want the exclusivity and 'rarity' and now feel threatened by these companies, you're in the hobby for the wrong reasons. DIY is great, but it is so because of the communities it fosters, not the objects it makes.
Re: Funko Sofubi?!?!? I think people are to kind with indie toy maker, I think the majority use they own money becuse they would never be made... it's not because your are ''indie'' or give freebie to customiser that make you a good artist anyhow, these are bad too
Re: Funko Sofubi?!?!? Got to agree, the top 3 I don't think are too bad, kind of have a RxH/skull toy vibe. THese things are better than most indy vinyl/resin coming out. I'm not too fond of any of these paint apps, too monotone and they look a little messy. But some of the colorways have been really nice. Some of those TMNT colorways, if those were on a popular indy sofubi toy, people would have been shitting themselves in excitement.
Re: Funko Sofubi?!?!? What's the price points on those? Some of them are decent sculpts, but the paint is terrible. If they are cheap, they may be cool to paint.
Re: Funko Sofubi?!?!? the feets aren't big enough + they should come with a dope accessory like a spraycan or microphone
