any good suggestions? I just got a netflix account and want to see some good flicks. Any suggestions are appreciated.
My girlfriend and I just got netflix too. We love it! I'm intrested in checking out some of these movies too!
Have you seen the Japanese shit, Like Ichi and Fudoh and the Story of Ricki O and Wilde Zero and Evil Dead Trap? The Guinea Pig Movies are kind of obscure, allthough not my favorite, the August Underground movies are very obscure and disturbing. Also Dead ALive (BRainDEad) and Bad taste are more funny Gory movies along the lines of Evil Dead, allthough not so obscure I guess.
Cannibal Holocaust and Cannibal Ferox should push the upper limits of your gore threshhold, if you haven't seen them already. For something gory and fun, Peter Jackson's Bad Taste and Dead Alive. Add Suicide Circle to your queue, too. You'll never look at Fruit Roll-ups the same way again.
And not so Gory but I think Werewolves on wheels recently got a DVD release and I love that movie so you should watch it if you haven't. Also Deadbeat at Dawn is kind of Obscure 80's street Gang movie, not so Gory but rules very hard with an iron fist. Also some Fulci movies like City of the living Dead, House by the Cemetary and The Beyond are kind of Gory. Maybe not House by the Cemetary so much.
oh yeah I have seen cannibal ferox before that movie is fuckin NUTS! The part where they chop the top of dude's head off and start eating his brains was extremely disturbing.
I can't even remember the head part, dont they cut off the guys Wang in Ferox to though? I personally like Holocaust way more.
Yes, that was Cannibal Ferox that had that scene. Organ for organ, Cannibal Ferox is an equal opportunity multilator. Cannibal Holocaust was approached with some degree of seriousness by the creators, whereas Ferox is just sort of a "let's do it by the numbers" flick, but both are worth seeing. I don't know if Trap Them and Kill Them (a.k.a. Emannuelle and the Last Cannibals) is available on Netflix, but I remember seeing that. It's the RC Cola of cannibal films.
Ferox is sorta silly, whereas Holocaust is totally straight forward for fun gore: -BURIAL GROUND (quite possibly my favorite movie of all time) -Pieces -early Fulci (Zombie, Gates of Hell (aka City of the Living Dead), House By The Cemetary) -Nightmare City -Shogun Assassin (I can't remember if there is a Region 1 disc of this yet) that's what I'm coming up with off the top of my head. I'll think about it some more and come up with more. you could go with anything anyone else said too, they're all good suggestions.
Oh and if you haven't seen it you should really check out Street Trash, It's not so much Gory but it does feature several hobos colorfully melting and exploding. It's also got some of the best quotes ever as well as an amazing scene where a bad ass cop Kicks the shit out of a guy in a bathroom, puts his head in a toilet and proceeds to make himself throw up on him, It's simply amazing and that's just the tip of the iceberg, one of my favorite shitty movies ever. It got a new DVD release a little while ago to.
also a good pick! it's not especially gory, but I would recommend The Children. totally fun. there just aren't enough movies where kids get killed. it's a shame that The Burning is not out uncut in the US yet, because that's gory and fun, and features a young Jason Alexander.
The Children got released on DVD by Troma recently right? Was there a different Troma release called Children at play or sopmething where the parents kill the kids as well?
yeah, I think I know what you're talking about, but I'm not sure what it is. probably just your typical old troma crap. the cover looks like a yellow diamond street sign, right?
Hey Fresh, If you have not seen it yet, check out "FROM BEYOND" , some great brain eating scenes in that one plus some really weird ass kinkster shit.. I think the original Hellraiser was kinda gory too.
Yup that one, I saw that one and it was cool because it was parents killing Kids, better than your average Troma crap probably. Shape the 1st Hellraiser kills, not a real Gore movie but there is a skinless man, I love that one.
Yeah I just saw a write up about that one in the new Rue Morgue magazine, I'm going to have to find a copy.
O/T slightly but i'm off to see Hostel tonight, really looking forward to it even though plastering tarantino's name all over it irks me somewhat
I'm curious to hear what you think about Hostel. Personally, I didn't enjoy it as much as Cabin Fever. It didn't have enough of Roth's sense of humor and irony in it. The effects were very good, though.
Damn, most of my suggestions have already been made. >_< I still think Brain Dead is the goriest film I've ever seen. For the lawnmower bit. I love all 3 Evil Deads, and yes, Ichi the Killer has some nice creative violence. That movie does some manga/anime tricks (like the slomo slice and fall) in live action. And neat concept with the heel blades. What about Cronenberg's version of The Fly? Vomit and face-melting, transporter accidents, and more! I agree that the Lone Wolf & Cub movie is really bloody as hell. I remember being really shocked by it when I first saw it long ago. Now I'm properly desensitized. As for Hostel, I liked it, but I didn't get why people in Canada were having heart attacks and vomiting in the aisles. Seemed pretty tame in the actual gore department. Maybe the context? Or was there an unrated filmfest version? Devil's Rejects and even the new Hills Have Eyes were pretty good, but I don't see where the hardcore word of mouth was coming from. Didn't seem all that bad to me... Side note -- in that new HHE, is the wheelchair bound mutant hillbilly an homage to Rubber Johnny, or a rip-off? Discuss. Cabin Fever did have some nice icky scenes... and the guts to finish in a non-traditional way... Re-animator & Necronomicon, both Lovecraft-based movies with one of my personal horror heroes Jeffrey Combs are cool, too. Necronomicon is an anthology, and the "Cool Air" segment features one of the best FX things ever, IMHO. A quick call to my horror-fanatic friend (fiend?) reveals these pics: The '88 ver. of The Blob, Carpenter's The Thing, Body Melt, Howling I, and the Fly II, which was done by the FX guy on the first and features a great elevator scene. Enjoy!!
