^ Only 8,362 individual suckers to go until its funded, if I'm reading the site correctly.

That really is a lovely looking indulgence. Did you pick the base color and paints? Gorgeous.

I preordered the concept Vader and the Beskar armor Din Djarin; one of my regrets is not grabbing the jumbo a Boba Fett years back.

So it’s still early on the 29th, but what did everyone think of the first episode of ‘The Book of Boba Fett’?

    ***spoilers***

I’ve only watched it once so far; I enjoyed it. Much like the first episode of ‘The Mandalorian’ though, I felt it to be a little slow.. but I get it, they’re setting the story up, giving us backstory.. so I can overlook a slow start.

It was fun seeing Boba Fett get the spotlight though. It makes me want to rebuild a replica costume.
The only concern I had story-wise was the frequency in which he removed his helmet. Boba Fett *is* the helmet in my mind. I hope this is an intentional choice, in that this story begins with him trying to be a somewhat fair, respectful crime lord- and that is being shown through his approach: helmet off, hands open… but soon he realizes the crime syndicates mistake that for weakness, and the helmet goes back on and the hand closes into a fist to dole out violence.

    Burn!

    Haven't Boba'd yet. Might.

Neat kaiju on the attack, most can be said for it. Plodding story, there to fill D+ subscription time, sell product. Return of the band, the ogres, etc; toys to follow.
Robert Rodriguez directed (and cameos); somewhat better than Machete Kills. Not impressive stuff, even the music is filler.

CGI looks good, moves not so good. Stiff movements of the guard ‘dog’ and the kaiju betray the cgi, not fluid motion.

So I have two questions for you; because clearly you were unimpressed: 1. What were you expecting? Of course it’s a little clunky dialogue-wise, and is made to sell toys… it’s Star Wars. It is literally *the* movie/tv franchise that made action figure/toy line tie in’s what they are today.

And 2.- Knowing all this (and you should, if you’re an adult in 2021), why did you even bother? It delivered exactly what Star Wars sets out to be: Family-friendly SciFi western meets samurai flick. To expect anything else is silly. That’s like watching a “Fast and the Furious” movie and griping about the unrealistic driving.

Agreed. I will say that I did NOT like the first episode of the Mandalorian and when they got into all the "this is the way stuff" I had severe doubts but after that I binged and loved it. Unlike the Abrams movies...it is clear that the producers have a clear direction of where the show will start and end. I think this is going to be great. I am going to sit in the rain and watch it again.

Compared to how I felt coming out of the first episode of The Mandalorian, I found the first episode of Boba Fett disappointing. In one episode, The Mandalorian set up the current state of Mando's corner of the galaxy, established his challenges, and really left me wanting to know what happens next.

The Boba Fett premiere spends a lot of time on his escape from the Sarlacc and subsequent mistreatment at the hands of the Tuskens, but doesn't even finish the story. I would expect the first episode to at least answer the question of how we go to the present quickly and get to the story at hand. Also, it doesn't feel like we're going to get an explanation as to why Boba is making this drastic career change. Did he have a grudge against Jabba or Bib Fortuna? Does he think he can "fix" Tatooine? Why does he think he has the experience and skills to be a better crime boss than anyone else? What exactly are his obstacles going to be? And what kind of crime boss calls themself a "crime boss?"

They have six more episodes to improve, but if we spend every one of them continuing to go back to the story of everything that happened until he met up with Mando, it's really going to drag.

Your first question in an earlier post warranted a response.

"what did everyone think of the first episode of ‘The Book of Boba Fett’?"

First 5 minutes were … I mean after close to 40 years later! I’m glad they took us right to that moment and didn’t pussyfoot around it and wait for later episodes. after that It fizzled out.

I’m keeping hope that it will get better as the season progresses just as the Mandalorian has. I think JF knows what he’s doing and being a super fan he knows what the fans expect or want so again, I am holding strong that the show will get better and be a good companion to its sister show.

But not the other two questions, eh? ;) I don’t mind that you didn’t like the episode; hey to each their own. I just wondered about your thought process behind what you expected and what you got. Star Wars to me is like a bowl of ice cream; if you’ve had a bowl of it before you should know basically what to expect each time you have some. The flavor and toppings might change; but at its core it’s always ice cream.

Your initial post came off, to me, like a criticism that the ice cream was too cold and sweet.

So I think I'm out when it comes to Bobaing. I noticed that it was almost time for the third episode to arrive, and found myself reliving the extreme annoyance I felt when trying to get through the last one. I didn't step into the series with any particular expectations, but what I'm getting just, erm, grates. Seems to live in the exact space where the storytelling is dumbed down enough for small children, and lacquered enough with referential sheen for man children, that there isn't enough room left in the middle to hold my attention with either; I just keep being reminded of various demographics rather than getting lost in any sort of flow. Ah well, not for me. Oh, and is Temuera Morrison kind of bad at the whole acting thing? I can't tell if it's just what he's being asked to do, if I'm just so distracted by seeing the seams of the production that he doesn't even have a chance with me or if, yeah, he's just gravitas free and corny.

Pardon my complaining. Somebody please let me know if a worthy yarn emerges from the basket of strings.

so far I’m am mildly disappointed in the show through two episodes. Not enough is moving the stiory forward, and with only 6-7 episodes, every further minute they spend in a flashback is time wasted. The Tusken raider plot needs to wrap up. Im not looking for a savior story, nor am I looking forward to learning more about the tribal tusken society. Maybe if this were the book of bantha riders or something, but it’s not. It’s boba fett, and it needs to pick up and start going somewhere. Especially after his surprise splash return in the Mandalorian, and how he took care of business once he got his armor back. I want to see Boba the awesome bount hunter, not boba the trainee mob boss/desert savior.
And Boba Fett really needs to stop taking his helmet off so much. The helmet is what makes Boba Feet cool. Stop removing it (literally) in each episode.

that being said, I didn’t really get into the mandalorian season 1 until the sixth episode.

This show is bad. Finished the third episode and amazingly, it's even worse than the first two.
I hate the fact that they have produced such a bad show. From the scripts to the acting it's just so baaaad.
And yet, I will watch the entire series.

The third episode was so bad its mind boggling. I really wanted to give the show a chance and actually loved ep2 with the tusken backstory. But man, im really not feeling this crime lord with the heart or gold act. By far the worst part were these spy kids with the space vespas. That being said ill watch the whole thing

Yep. Boba Fett is way too much of a softie, and the addition of the Vespa gang is mind boggling.

Shouldn't they call the city Mos Vespa? HAW!

So far the show is a dud because it's not going very far beyond, "wouldn't it be cool if we had this Star Wars thing in the same shot with this other Star Wars thing."

What is this show about? What are we supposed to want for the characters? What do we want to discover for ourselves?

Again, at this point in The Mandalorian, we had a story about an orphan finding an orphan. We wanted to see that baby getting back to whoever it belonged with, and we hoped that Mando wouldn't be killed in the process. We wanted to see what a post-Empire Star Wars world was like, and what life in the Star Wars universe was like from the perspective of a bounty hunter.

It could be that this is one more show that was hampered by the pandemic, but it feels more like the victim of a lack of ideas. The first part of episode 2 was basically "meet with the mayor, who sends Boba across the street to meet with the casino owner, who sends Boba back into the street, to meet with a pair of Hutts and vague threats are exchanged." It's like watching just the cut scenes from a video game.

Also, whatever happened to the idea of Boba being a badass? In The Mandalorian he was able to take out a dozen Stormtroopers with a wooden stick. In this show, he can't handle a couple of ninjas while fully armored and accompanied by his chief assassin. The mayor's assistant is getting away in his Chevy and Boba can't just jet jump into the air and disable the car with a couple of blaster bolts.

The performances aren't helping, either. I can't tell if Temeura Morrison is trying to do a Clint Eastwood impression or what, but every one of his lines seems to come out with the same inflection. Ming-Na Wen isn't being given much to do aside from look menacing and agree with Boba on everything. And when folks like Stephen Root are given roles it feels like the worst parts of The Mandalorian, where you feel like you're watching an SNL sketch.

    Sorry, never responded to this:

I think it was $200 or so. It took a little while for him to do it because he had to do some recasting. He has molds of many of those jumbo figures and can make you a mix-and-match resin one. Or you can order multiple figures and swap around the limbs because he uses magnetic pegs and sockets for the joints.

Is it just me or is Fett recruiting a bunch of allies without really doing much?
