This reminds me of those multicolor swirl super balls. I kinda dig this.

Its Hexactuss. This is his signature style. It's not for me personally either, but I'm on board with what you're saying.

I used to not mind Bolton, I love her sculpts. But it’s hit and miss lately with her customs. It just gets oversaturated, and I love the flowers she paints but on Godzilla? Ehhhhhh.

I’ve seen far worse than her though to be fair.

I think Candie’s artwork has consistently been pretty amazing, but when she first started painting toys I wasn’t very into it at all. However, the last year or so I think she’s heavily come into her own and developed somethin’ a bit new(to my eyes) and distinct to her style. What she does in particular, she makes it work on whatever sculpt gets put in front of her(thus far). And whether you’re into it or not, in my opinion, her applications are always clean.

As for Guumon, I’ve always enjoyed Brian’s paints. Between his Krunk, Bangagon and Daigomi he’s had a solid repertoire of simpler, clean applications. On the flip side of simple, his signature “titanium” customs have a great effect on the eyes when you hold a custom in hand.

Hmm, so you'd agree her daubings instantly make a godzilla toy worth $1,290 then? Whether you like her stuff or not, that seems quite the mark-up for gilding the lily.

When I see words like 'Technically', 'Control' and 'Clean.' in regards to toy customs it takes the fun out of it all. But I'm obviously part of a small percentage of people who don't like the stuff. All this attention grabbing over the top shite, is just bells and whistles. I can't see it any other way!

@The Moog I can wholeheartedly, and loudly, state, in my opinion, that the price point is rather...ridiculous, for a lack of better words. “Worth” is a pretty ambiguous subject when it comes to toys. I’d be quicker to piss on a Nag than pay even it’s original retail price for one, but I know collectors that wouldn’t spend a dime on vintage that has normal/typical wear. My viewpoint is only towards both Candie and Brian’s specific capability to their artistry, and how I find it aesthetically pleasing. Doesn’t necessarily mean I’d own much of it, but it does mean I find ‘em impressive! To an extent I can agree that certain words take the fun out of customs, as it puts them into a realm of seriousness and, in a roundabout way, “art toy”. But I can and have used those same words towards a variety of artists like Paul Kaiju, M1, Splurrt, Bullmark, Miura Toy. If they didn’t have technicality, control or cleanliness, anyone could do what they do!

This is the dialogue I enjoy, though. At the end of the day, whether subtle or abrasive, I can still shake your hand and say about your opinion, “You’re not wrong!”

Absolutely, very well put, and of course you're not wrong either. Everyone finds something different to love about collecting, and opinions on aesthetics are bound to differ.

a lot of these customs affect me like seeing shitty tags over a nice piece of graff.plus i despise the idea of 'kaiju as canvas'

Still, I'm glad some people are with me. We're very much in a minority I reckon.

@doomboy This is definitely something I can agree with, though I think it contradicts my stated opinion a bit. Even when I believe the custom is done well it doesn’t actually mean it should’ve been done on certain(most) toys. A tag could look decent, or even good, but doesn’t have to go over a great graffiti bomb to get noticed. I’m also of the mindset that kaiju shouldn’t be treated as a canvas, a la Dūnny and similar. But I can’t say I’ve hated it every single time it’s been done. Just...90% of the time.

I’m a huge fan of kinnikuman, but I refuse to have any Brocken/BrockenJr. (That’s this characters name) in my collection. Initially (in the 1970s) he was created as a straight up nazi. Old depictions of him have the swastika on his uiniform. At some point, the creators of kinnikuman realized the optics of this in the wider world, and the Nazi symbols were removed. From my understanding he’s considered now (retconned) to be more of a generic “soldier” than a nazi... and is even one of the good guys. I kinda lump it in with Sgt. Schultz and Col. Clink from Hogans Heroes.... a “what the hell were you thinking” character that at the time seemed ok but is now recognized as over the line. And I just choose to never collect anything with that character on it.

Yes, but fuck anything that looks like a Nazi uniform. I don't give a shit what your argument is.

... and for the record, i'm a casual fan of Kinnikuman. I have a full size Sunshine and a shitload of Muscle figures but I've never seen any character that looks like its wearing a Nazi uniform. A cynical person (who me?!) would probably assume this new toy has appeared now because of the recent uptick in Nazi themed stuff coming out of Asia. The trend obviously sells.

To me, it is not an excuse that it's a minor character from Kinnikuman. They could have just decided to not make it.

Yeah anything with an iron cross or swastika is going to be a big “no” for me.
I saw some Nazi I guess “inspired” toys a few pages back but was swamped with deadlines at the time. As someone who’s family had countless unsolicited experimentations on and many die quite violently and painfully in the concentration camps (as a result has a very small surviving family), it’s especially insulting seeing them potrayed “cutesy”.

I've found it: the most upsetting custom ever conceived. Yours for the low low price of ¥40,000
