It just makes me think of D&D lead figures. But this is overly elaborate. And fugly.

This one will be very popular, I'm gonna say. Definitely not for me, but isn't this an intentional fugly?

I find the price the fugliest thing about it, admittedly. Its also another so called 'tribute' toy of Kitaro that I've seen recently, and I'm just not a fan of this one either.

I think its for a good grip so you can sling it into an abandoned quarry or an active volcano with greater force.

So is the price tag being in direct proportion to the fugliness the new norm?

At least it’s Siccaluna, those dudes have been around forever and if someone is going to give them a Grand for a weird busy mash-up they deserve it a million times more than the Fresh Meat throwing Mickey ears or swastikas on a toy and charging 500.
Honestly, I know most of these guys don’t have a thread but I’d rather see this stuff posted to the siccaluna thread even the opinion is negative for more organized discussion and updates on them.

I think Miyazawa - San is takin’ a page out of the ol’ Grody Shogun book with these mashups. Siccaluna toys were used very early on, if not the first, in Luke’s mashup game. So it’s kinda cool to see it comes full circle, and from a master such as Miyazawa himself. The Ill Punk is my favorite he’s posted so far. Looks like someone from a Hellraiser themed industrial metal band. My high school self would’ve fawned over that hard! Couldn’t agree more with Miyazawa deserving and earning the price tag, for the legitimate longevity, lengthy resume and insane work that went into these alone.

Which you are free to do, nobody's stopping you. This is the fugly thread, and IMO these 'toys' more than qualify.

As Clint said in the Unforgiven, deserves got nothing to do with it. Do i think these recent one offs are fugly? Yes. Do i think they're insanely expensive? Yes.

I personally dont like anyone trying to elevate sofubi above being toys. Which is what they are. This 'gallery' exclusivity is pandering to the rich and excluding the average collector. I think toys are for fun and should be affordable (within reason). This hobby was expensive enough to begin with, and it would be a shame if prices keep going up to the point only the rich get to play.

@The Moog Oh, I don’t mean to say that Miyazawa - San, or similar, SHOULD be charging high prices, I just believe he’s put in the work to be in a position where he could. Perhaps it’s just this wild hair up a creative ass that he feels warrants such a high price tag; the excessive work, extra parts, mashup, detailed paints, etc. My position is more or less the same as Joe, where, I think the work he’s presented at least SHOWS he put in work to ask that kind of monies. As where someone just paints a standard ass release or slaps some bullshit Disney, Simpsons, Mario reference on it and thinks the contrived, boring, stenciled pop culture reference commands hundreds of extra dollars. He’s still releasing standard toys at his usual, affordable prices.

I agree with both of you that Siccaluna have earned their dues. I suppose i just see the fugly thread as something that shouldnt be over analysed, perhaps. I go with my gut reaction, but its only natural people want to defend the stuff I'm posting here, when its an artist they respect and not 'the Fresh Meat throwing Mickey ears or swastikas on a toy and charging 500'. I understand the need for context.
