It's not for me, but that Izu guy does pack my favourite gimmick (chain arms!). More of that please.

Yeah, that 'vagina' is lifted straight from Hipporito Seijin. The whole toy looks like random other toys mashed together awkwardly.

i think its literally supposed to be a bastardized homage to tyrant and hipporito. the parallels are just toooo obvious imo!

I love The Devil’s Kaiju Seeer and Shaman toys. Simple form factors, but readable despite their textures details, like multiple eyes and pronounced cheek bones/facial expressions. I also really enjoy his reasons behind why each of his characters exist and how they sometimes play off of each other. I think his paint applications and colors stand out from many in his releases, as well.

It's always interesting to read a calm rebuttal to my gut-reaction fugly choices. I just see a papalemon style body with oversized heads that fell out of the fugly tree, and hit every branch on the way down ... but maybe that's just me. I'm glad some people can see a toy they rate in this thread and not throw a wobbler!

@The Moog I can easily see why they’d be unattractive to literally anyone. I’ve just been close to David’s sculpting/painting style since the beginning, and I know why he does what he does, as it’s very intentional. So I think I have inherit bias, but a genuine liking of his work. I can say for sure, in my opinion, that it’s much less textured and not nonsensical like the PLT figures. Though I do understand this aesthetic tends to get under a lot of skins because it feels like the easy way out.

I do not like it Sam I am.

(in reference to toys with schlongs and gavinas)

Conversely, toys with buttholes are funny!

Oddly enough, I don't mind that new Izu figure. I like all of the nods to more classic kaiju styling.

Some unfortunate Bear Model with the 'one-off' treatment AKA 'gaudy showboating shite'.

You could replace the work “toy” with just about anything and it would be funny. Buttholes = Funny, it’s simple mathematics.

To me NFTs are just something for artists who have become culturally irrelevant who are desperately trying to appear part of what they think is the new avant garde.

id prefer it if they put their efforts into making something actually interesting.

So in this situation, what happens if someone bought this NFT along with the toy and then decided to resell the toy or the NFT without the other? I’m asking a serious question and it seems like a very serious flaw when trying to put a real item on a blockchain.

If someone could explain to me how this works or send me a link using non-technical jargon, I’d appreciate it.

That is the real benefit of the NFT, finding a way to attach it to a physical object so the artist gets a cut of every secondary market sale.

Could've been '... fecking Ron English bollocks, grumble grumble ...' I would've agreed with either!

Yep, have you heard him talk about himself recently?. Believing his own hype, the bloke loves himself. I mean, there's self confidence and then there's being an egotistical plonker!

feel bad for whoever has the bad taste to buy this instead of just getting a koons replica. The guy basically invented the field where the stuff English makes comes out of.

Also, everyone is late to the NFT party by about three weeks…. Three weeks ago.
NFTs at least will free up all that wall space for the folk that collect walls of funko d*nnys. Now they are digital and they finally can share them on insta without him having to buy a plastic thingie

Can't even share an NFT on insta though, is the trouble, no?

You're not buying a digital representation of the work, or even indisputable proof of ownership; you're buying a receipt with a flimsy hyperlink printed on it. And thanks to sleep-minting, even that can be effectively forged.

Forgive the outburst but it's absolute dogshit, misguided crypto hype at its worst. Technology that's unfit for purpose with zero useful infrastructure around it, getting pumped up by pure speculation.

I don't believe that is possible with blockchains at this moment (aftermarket royalties to the 1st owner in the blockchain), but I defer to my resident crypto sofubi brother @Michael Beverage on this.

I do think the main benefit of NFTs in this situation (NFT and physical object) is the equivalent of a chain of custody/certificate of authenticity. With bootlegs becoming an ever-increasing problem in this scene it at least provides both the aftermarket buyer validation that the item is legitimate and the artist with a sense of where their stuff is moving and who is selling what.

There is nothing stopping anyone from selling the physical media separate from the NFT intentionally, maybe due to lack of knowledge, technical skill set, etc, but at least from an aftermarket buyer's perspective you could say "if you aren't on the blockchain I'm gonna assume it's fake".

I will say though the purely digital NFT market is going to crash and burn horrifically and I am gonna laugh my ass off.
