Edited as I was incorrect. Sofubiki does have the marbled mvh chibi at that price. Says it to raise funds for the site. Not excusing but that’s the supposed rationale.

Does someone really need like 400 dollars to run a website?

If you give a reason for selling at a high price then you already know you're taking the piss. Why not say its for your mums new bungalow, like Peter Kay.

UK EBay for sofubi is becoming like Amazon for out of print books. I gut-laugh at the ridiculous prices on a regular basis ... and then the stuff just sits there for months, often longer.

Well this is really disheartening to learn of. One more aspect in the commercialisation of this hobby just to grind at you. Instituting this BS system of class at cons is utter garbage [Sidebar - as it is in everything. Ever. :x]. What a farce.

I was not even really aware (until now) that sofubi on ebay/UK was even a thing. Can say as I am surprised with what it is, and good to know I am missing absolutely nothing. Carry on, speculative sellers. Meanwhile, in news I actually carry about, as things gradually return to pseudo normality once more I wonder what will happen with the car boots and like (and what treasures Moog might be unearthing from the charity shop runs).

Yeah, but ironically a lot of the good stuff is ending up on the ebay versions of those charity shops. They have pickers now that grab all the choice collectibles. The occasional gem does slip through though ...

This Monday i picked up a large limited edition Yves Chaland framed print of 'Freddy Lombard' (and his two pals). It's from the 1980's and it looks great.

Yeah - I totally hear ya. Went on a long rant the other day about a lot of so-called 'charity' shops taking the mick, and especially the 'chain' ones have gotten a bit wonky. Not sure I understand the business model tbh, but I guess I am not in charge.

Wow man, that does sound like a very impressive and nice find. I am in the styx now so can't say I can hope for much other than an occasional nice piece of vintage Tupperware, but hey, there's always the hunt.

Totally. I found this jpeg of it on an auction site, they had the print estimated at £85. I got it for £12. The artist/writer died in a car accident when he was 33 years old, apparently great things were expected of him. I'm pretty chuffed with it, and to find it already framed was nice too.

I made a comment on FB criticising the VIP passes at DCon UK, and a person who works for the con disagreed. Tells me that ALL the sellers have enough stock for EVERYONE, enough to last the whole weekend. Made it sound like whenever you turn up you'll get whatever you want. My claims of flipping completely false apparently ... I politely told him eBay tells a different story.

Hello! Sorry to cause any upset, it was me selling the MVH Chibi. I know it's no excuse but unfortunately I paid a premium for him (stupid!) as I didn't manage to get one direct from Unbox. He didn't fit in, so I was just trying to get my dollar back – all of my other listings are retail and I've now taken him down.

Edit – if anyone can't make it and wants anything that I'm taking to DCon please let me know and I'll see what I can do ☺️

Of course, you're free to spend your money anyway you like and we're equally free to moan about prices on eBay. I'd say that's one hell of a 'premium' price for a $65 toy though. Are you sure it wasn't 'buyers remorse' rather than it 'didn't fit in'. That's a shit ton of cash for a toy that isn't even sculpted by the man himself ...

Does anyone know what numbers they're produced in? Every one of them I've seen on the secondary market is going for silly money. I have to assume they're very limited.

That colourful marbled release was admittedly cool as hell.

I'm not too sure on numbers I'm afraid – anything MVH is always crazy expensive on the secondary market  and I know there's a huge bot problem with Shopify stores so it's always scalped a gooden. I was sucked in by the marbled goodness!

I know chances are slim BUT if anyone is going to Dcon, and isn’t interested in the Headlock stuff Kore Kore have on offer, I’d be happy to purchase them off you. I was planning on going on Friday evening but something has come up and I won’t be able to attend.

And so 2 of the headlock toys from Dcon are already being flipped on fleabay for crazy amounts. Not unexpected but a shame nonetheless.

As you say, not unexpected but a really crappy element of the community and a selfish way to behave.

Yeah, and there was the Dcon guy lecturing me, saying all the sellers had more than enough stock for everyone, for all the days.

Then halfway through Saturday they post on FB that all the Headlock stuff is selling fast and they only have a few left ...

How was the rest of decon. I was supposed to go and then I got the shits so didn’t fancy it. True story. Heh I’m not here to date. Anyway. Didn’t seem much of interest to me, not really into the headlock stuff. But what other gems did people see. What did I miss out on.

Was pretty quiet really, Unbox had a bunch of stuff, and folks were digging it, the rest was very much urban vinyl and clothing, I think that when people can travel again (hopefully 2022) we'll see a ton of folks flying over for it and an increased Sofubi presence.

We had our humble table set up – It was my first con so I can't compare it with anything but it definitely felt a bit quiet.
We did alright though and it was awesome to raise some awareness ☺️

I am not really driving anywhere, but still, these inflation rates are sure pinching at the wallet right now. Between energy, transport, and food bills, toys are looking more and more like a luxury (which they already were).
