It was a nice one, but too designer-toy-scene-like. Also, did the SB X project of releases get canned? I only remember a mummy boy being release maybe these two things aren’t related and I’m just creating confusion.
^^ Nope, they were somewhat related in that both were around the anniversary/X, if independent of each other, so fair question. But I was hesitant to post in that thread to conflate the two. Glad to see so many people are happy it's back, too. Sometimes {all the time?} you just don't mess with the classics.
Thanks for the info! I figured it was related but just wanted a bit of confirmation there. Also RE: not messing with the classics Preaching to the choir there . How many of us do not love goji redesigns or throw our hands up every time a zillionth Astroboy with ‘urban’ feels is released, amirte!?
All of the SkullbrainX releases came out a long time ago. There were originally planned to be 7 of them, but the last two fell through. Then a couple years later we did this amazing Owl release. View this post on Instagram
Skullbrain's 10th anniversary banner: May 6th, 2015-Aug 17th, 2021. May she rest in peace. And to think I'd all but given up the dream. Thanks, boss! What had happened was... □ I II III IV V VI Stunning stuff, now that I'm seeing it again!
I think you could be remembering when the 'X' banner came along, I think there might have been some other suggestions for new ones, in the event it was used as a temporary banner for the event. We could do something again, but I think - and the feedback here suggests - that sometimes there is beauty in the simplicity. I think the one option which was sort of a nice place on the above was a very low contrast version of the text, almost an 'incognito' site identifier. But yeah, it is as it is, long may she reign.
Well, I made a case for this crop of one of Robert's snaps a couple of years ago... ...but I didn't try all that hard.
I would have love to see a banner similar to the one you can see on Mandarake when you click on the TOY button: crowded toys! Similar thing but with sofubi only, in colour or maybe in b&w.
That is similar to one idea I had where each member (or let's say each active member, who chooses to do so) could photograph one toy (headshot let's say) and one of those incredibly skilled graphic designers of which the board seems to have so many, could attempt a 'collage' banner. In a way we could all be represented in it by some fashion. Likely we could even go to a grayscale version, and if there were enough submissions (we DO have a ton of members) each image might be sufficiently small so as to almost be indiscernible, and you effectively can still have the 'black' background, so I would superimpose the normal text on this. So sort of a modification to keep what we have, but if people really wanted a more image/toy-centric header.
...and each headshot could become a tile, and each tile could be arranged such that we create an image of Father Flynn, naked but for Nakajima-san's polkadot headwrap draped tastefully upon his loins, laying in repose upon the holy couch of @666doll... OR, we could sit back, for a bit, and enjoy the quiet beauty that is the banner of old. Discussion tabled until mid '22, eh?
Most definitely. (and I am not one of them... totally opposite end of the spectrum, actually) Seconded. Was only bringing up my earlier idea IF we ever needed to revisit the idea of a new header. By that the time this idea could come to fruition - and with the volunteer efforts of those involved it would need - this would be far down the line anyways. Anyone remember the Moleskin projects??
I'd like to say that in hindsight my " I miss the old Skullbrain " campaign has great results... I know it wasn't me, but I did post the banner back in May, wishing for old SB to come back. This is at least a piece of the past.
