Not strange or rare, just surprised to see a pretty common evil fetch this price, I’m guessing the Devil Man paint app must be a draw, either that or mutant zone figures are about to sky rocket into adult prices. https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/x1005291766
Oh wow. Remember splitting this out in a lot with some friends not even two years ago; we paid some $70-80 per toy.
I’ve had a few over the years and think I still have this in storage. I doubt I’ve paid more than 50-60 for them.
I loveeee that one. I'm hunting the flesh colored Devilman, and that was sold not too long ago on viciousfun, but not for that much.
Not an auction per se, yet I have no idea where else to post this. Feel free to indicate me the proper thread. The last color way of the Flying Freak collab between MVH and Headlock just sold for HKD23600 ($3000 and change) in Hong Kong. WTF??? It’s a great looking toy and everything but/and … why? I am flabbergasted. Not jealous or anything, I have one on my shelf, I’m all good. Just … why? That is 17.6 times it’s original price ffs. For a toy released a little over a month ago. Are people that desperate to throw their money away? I guess good for the store that somehow made it possible for itself to slap that kind of price on their stuffs and get people to go for it. In less than 6hours. It’s quite some magic. I feel old … and poor. … I’ll get over it. edit: here is the toy
Yeah, that Flying Freak was listed for nearly $3,300 last night and sold. There are high prices for seriously rare pieces then there is this...I'm assuming there are around 100 or so (maybe many more) of this colorway. Hard to believe anybody is paying this price. Just silly
Yes. It’s weird to think that either of my Flying Freak by Headlock would probably go for more than my Bemon Kougai custom painted by Rich if i was to sold them on eBay. I see Headlock toys as the closest equivalent in our small sofubi world to what’s happening with some sneakers. Pretty fitting that Rich released those Supreme and Off White version of his collab.
The amount of traveling that can be done in place of packing shelves with toys for momentary social media gratification is astounding. It’s anecdotal, but I’ve personally got friends that have repeatedly expressed jealousy to me over my three visits to Japan, and how badly they “wish” they can go, but then drop monies like this on single toys. I just pulled back a lot on buying for a few months and I was set each time. I mean, Christ, $3K is two months average mortgage.
Add it to the list of sculpts I'll never own: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1651267654...=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
Man... Guess I need to forget about filling in the holes in my collection of weird Marmit ultra-kaiju when these sell for 122k yen. Granted, I never see this guy pop up, but, damn...
A few weeks ago I saw someone on FB in disbelief of the spiking prices on these (I think a recent Cowra auction was mentioned specifically?)…yeah, these are discouraging, and a little baffling. Not knowing a lot about that era of Marmit or how it worked—at this point, I wonder if cycled reissues of the more obscure monsters would be worth it, or even doable.
There is a new auction for this from a different seller, using what appear to be the exact same photos...
I can tell you this is all done by my rich Chinese fellows, for in mainland China, now there is a smal group of people only chasing for Choju characters made by Marmit, Bear Model or even M1go. It seems they don't have other sofubi to buy, so they can throw tons of money on Choju...
