    Rest in Power Trevor Strnad
The passing of the vocalist for Michigan’s death metal band The Black Dahlia Murder was announced earlier today via their Instagram page. Needless to say, as with just about all passings, this is completely shocking and unexpected news.

I first saw TBDM in 2003 on the tour for support of their Metal Blade Records debut Unhallowed. The band set up, Trevor walked up front and center, ripped off his shirt to reveal “HEARTBURN” tattooed across his stomach, and the band immediately kicked into the album’s title track intro. I’ll never forget how contrasting the hilarity of that, versus the serious nature of their music is, hit me and the good vibe it spread from stage to floor. I’ve seen TBDM perform a handful of times since, and it only got better and more memorable each time. Trevor’s vocals are an absolute powerhouse of range and form, and his lyrics embodied the style of storytelling for the genre perfectly. I briefly met him and complimented their set after the first show, and he’s still one of the nicest people I’ve ever met to this day.

Seeing the Suicide Prevention Hotline number at the end of TBDM’s tribute to Trevor is heartbreaking. If you ever need help, feel alone, are struggling, or just need a friendly voice, please reach out. And check in on friends and loved ones. Everyone’s goin’ through somethin’ at some point(s).

This one hurt, Im a big TBDM fan, lots of great memories watching them back in the miasma days a bunch and then everytime I managed to be in the US. I wanted that heartburn tattoo for years and was always too chicken to do it (both for how hilarious it is and how much Trevor's stage presence made it work). Dunno, a bummer all around, he was just an encyclopedia and his columns were always fun to read and learn from.

Im wearing my TBDM 'detroit rock city' tribute shirt today in memory of the great tunes and even better times Mr Strnad presided over for so many of us.

and sounds like we're a broken record, but check on those you love if you get a moment. Goes a long way.
