Just seeing this for the first time today. I think it is an interesting concept. Not quite sure how to realise it as a skeletal figure, but I think this is about as good as anyone could hope for. Such a great scene, I am pleased to see some inspiration coming from it (and new sources); that is definitely something that is missing in this hobby by and large, no matter how you feel about its aesthetics. I think it does more or less work though, for what it's worth, I think the head could have been done a little more differently to really capture [my preferred] '54 look, but I have to say it is very AA and spot on in that department. The colours are cool, and I am sure this would look pretty cool in a painted GID look too, give it that underwater radioactive glow. Credit to @deafmetal for this one, but it absolutely should have an oxygen destroyer as omake!
US Toys always makes me think of those blown glass ornaments... very bulbous and smooth. I believe many would argue AA's digital sculpts lack some finer details, but they aren't quite as polished. I can definitely see a bit of likeness in terms of stature though. I too would like to see more Gogas. I'd say it's very possible that Medicom will produce more in the future, but I wouldn't count on them doing so anytime soon with their focus on these Godzilla toys. If it were up to me I'd ask them for another Zoromederu... such an awesome sculpt that was underutilized even before Medicom got their hands on his works.
Any news on why this one is Japan only? Is this a permenant change? “A lottery will be held from among those who applied during the following period. Winners can purchase. (Delivery is only domestic. Applications are accepted only from Japan.)” QUOTE="HBCoffin, post: 1010424, member: 1869"]The upcoming MegaroGoji is looking pretty darn cute. Photo taken from AA's blog. [/QUOTE]
I think that's an error. Medicom seems to have templates for instructions and disclaimers like that, they probably just used the wrong one. Typically when orders aren't open to a specific country the option won't even be available from the dropdown menu. In this case you can still select USA and Canada.
Hi, Is there a thread on the OG AA pre medicom? Kind of odd how late this thread started and devoted to the medicom stuff. I've been searching but not finding much. Any assistance would be great.
Haha looks like he took a heroic dose and is seeing his dead grandmother crawling up his leg with a knife between her teeth. I'm into it!
Well, this was a weird and pleasant surprise- not what I expected to see when I clicked into this thread. I totally dig it, fun reworking. I will not pick one up, but if the wild and woolier Counterattack previewed on the blog does get made, I will CERTAINLY be going for that... LOVE it! My fave auto-translated snippet from the blog post: "The point is that you have a mouth and you can see your teeth."
The head and legs are good, but the sculpt on the front of the body is completely symmetrical. Once you see that, you can't unsee it.
-LSD eyes -teef (as noted) -a somewhat unappealing digital render symmetry (as noted) ALL YOURS FOR A BARGAIN PRICE HERE AT THE END OF THE WORLD!! Although I still dig seeing it (but wouldn't buy it), good points from @Roger and @akum6n. To Rog's point, I also immediately noticed the symmetry yesterday, and yeah... it's not great, in sofvi. While we're nitpicking: on the Counterattack version, I think AA would do well to change the hands up a little bit. Thicken 'em a smidge, lengthen 'em, bring 'em out and over- more flappy, a bit more powerful looking. They just look oddly small on the woolier sculpt.
Feels a little static, I think it’s the way the legs attach, they just come straight down and line up with the outer edge of the body so the form feels very straight. I don’t hate the texture though and don’t really see the mirror mentioned. Maybe Mr Anraku is just a fan. And it was a figure he wanted to make.
I haven’t outright hated or loved any of the recent licensed stuff, but I do dig the coo-coo eyes, and am a big fan of many tiny teeth
I really dig it. Not blown away (so many Garamon sculpts possibly being the reason why), but i like the AA offering. If the base color is super-rich, I’d go for it. woke up—looked at it again. I like this one more than the traditional sculpt from which it’s based. M1-go Giant is always fun—but this one is a winner for me. the symmetry kind of works for me; Gary was some kind of alien remote-controlled robot. I actually like this sculpt more than the Marusan and Bullmark ones. The teeth do it for me—and the deeper texture of the body. I don’t think AA was trying to be “different “—maybe just give us their “way” of the classic sculpt. I liken sculpting to drawing—and this is maybe how AA would draw the classic version. I just hope they stick with the big black iris.
I really like most of the licensed sculpts AA has done. The digital aspect doesn't bother me like it does some, but I'm biased as I work in 3D modeling and understand the time and effort it takes, as well as the hurdles involved in 3D printing. Just because he isn't getting his hands dirty doesn't mean hard work, meticulous calculation and care isn't involved in their rendering and translation to a physical model. All that said I admit the end product doesn't always lend well to the traditional sofubi aesthetic. My main gripe with these recent works are the color choices. Thus far they have been less than stellar, underwhelming, and repetitive with too many analogous schemes. I have to wonder whether that's a choice on AA's part or if it's due to licensor approval.
This Garamon is just a waste. There are so many good versions of this. Why recycle with a factory paint job that adds basically nothing over what is already released. I truly do not understand.
