Introducing the Mudbelly.

Thanks again, everyone, it is much appreciated. The first boxes went out today!

I loved that Dianoga too! Stephen has a million stories about his Kenner days. That beastie was his first sculpt and he learned quickly that the sculptors there were totally beholden to the "parting line" where the two injection mold halves come together. He had to redo the Dianoga several times. He said he also caught a lot of flak for that little bend in Walrus Man's leg. Nowadays some curvature in a piece like that is much easier to do but back then it would cause headaches in the manufacturing process.

He's done a couple of convention appearances in the last few years, there may be some videos of them out there.

Glad to find a robust thread for this here. I was waiting on my meal in a Thai restaurant in Roanoke on Sunday night (pitstop on the home leg of a holiday road trip) when I opened IG to find this wondrousness. Fingers couldn't move fast enough to grab. EVERYTHING about this guy was an instant YES.

THANK YOU! The “Wild Type” Mudbellies are sold out for now, but more are on the way! Read on...

The last packages were dropped off at the post office yesterday. I have been so overwhelmed by the positive response from everyone. Mudbellies have now been sent to Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Taiwan, and Japan. Some of them even found homes right here in New Jersey, which warms my heart.

The green “Wild Type” Mudbelly is not a limited edition. I will continue to make many more Mudbellies as long as people keep buying them. I’ve already ordered more, but it’s going to take a couple of months to pull and paint them. Please be patient, and continue to watch this Instagram account for a photo that says “RESTOCKED!”

I’ve gotten a lot of questions about the future of the Mudbelly beyond the “Wild Type.” I do have ideas for a few vinyl and paint combos that will be limited editions, plus I am talking with a couple of artists about exclusives. Several people asked me about unpainted blanks. I have no plans to sell blanks at this time.

Again, thank you so much to everyone who bought one, subscribed to this Instagram, and gave me support and encouragement for this project.

@Roger congrats on mudbelly! I just now found this thread, and what a great story on how he came about. I wasn’t fast enough for the initial run, but I’m glad to hear the base colorway is going to be a sort of open run. I’ll try to grab one on the next batch!

Yeah. I was kind of stunned by that price tag. I thought it would be fun to see it on Mandarake's site, so I sent one to a friend who sold it at CoCoo. He told them it was originally sold at $35 and they paid him ¥7,000 for it. He said the store was packed with foreigners snapping everything up, and he thinks it was sold out of the case before the listing even made it to the web site. The whole thing was an interesting exercise to see how things are done at Mandarake.

I have more Mudbellies on the way and they will be priced at $35 again. I also have a couple of limited colors that I plan on selling at All Monsters Attack and/or Five Points Fest.

 

100% that. It's really unfortunate that the market is brutally inflated right now, but awesome that you are still getting these out there at that price.

 

I guess its early because its at FUCKING CHRISTMAS THIS YEAR, but any plans for a dcon run? My green one could use a little buddy!

 

Right now I'm pretty sure I won't be at DesignerCon due to the dates they chose. Whatever limited color Mudbellies don't sell at the shows I'll be selling online, plus I have ideas for limited colors that will be sold online. Trust me, your 'belly will definitely have some company by the end of 2023.

 

Cool cool, will keep an eye out, really love the texture and pose on this guy, need at least one more!
