Which is cool but, like, Mondo’s posters is almost universally what they’re known for when I ask people if they’re familiar with the company. Such a stupid move.

 

That's terrible news. I've always appreciated Mondo's posters. As if I needed another excuse to dislike Funko...

 

Maybe Funko's next step is to start mass distribution of what's left of Mondo in Target & Barnes and Noble.

Nukes man, it's all about the NUKES... No but seriously what would be great is if people who just buy anything Shig makes look up the Gojira backstory (nukes, and environmental disasters. Fingers on the button. ETC) Congratulations on the license, also I was looking up old threads, and I noticed you talking about how bad you wanted a particular Headlock release, and you went from that, to collaboration. Congrats on always following your dreams man..

Basically a more detailed version of the Gizmodo article, but it's coming straight from a designers perspective.

Really hoping we see a Mondo 2.0 pop up. I've got 2 of their posters and they're fantastic.

 

I would like to sell SPLURRT to funko for a million dollars, since they have already copied Cadaver Kid I think they would be interested, then they can close it down. I would be very happy with that transaction.

 

I’m really close to pulling the trigger on these.

I've come up with a 100 lame butt excuses why this isn't real sofubi to keep myself from pulling the trigger. Almost certainly would have ordered if it was just the goji.

I’ll give the digital sculptor credit for at least taking extra care to randomize the details down the sculpt’s center split, so it’s isn’t super obvious.
It still slightly irritates me that I can see the scale pattern is identical on the right and left. But, they’re further apart from eachother, and I can understand why it’s probably not worth the extra days of work to appease a few nit-picky assholes that don’t have the money to buy them anyway LOL (me)

 

I bought them.The movie the figures are based on is one of my favorite Showa era movies. A movie for kids but it’s very fun. Better than waiting for a similar release from a boutique maker and then trying to enter a lottery for 30 pieces overseas, where the set would cost 3 times as much. Just my Humble opinion.

 

Lucky for me I wouldn't buy in either case lol.

Guess I'll just keep lurking in the sales board.

 

I haven't decided yet. Anyone here have any of the other Mondo Godzilla toys that could offer a bit more details on their quality? The most I've heard/read from other reviews is "they have a good weight to them," but I'd like to know more about how they feel; how hard is the vinyl (I know this varies even for Japanese soft vinyl), how stiff are the joints, etc.

The boxes the figures come in seem solid with nice artwork, but there's a reason I prefer a simple bag and header card. I don't like throwing away packaging but I also don't like clutter in my closet or other storage spaces.

 

I’ve shot and am shooting quite a bit for Mondo still, so I handle a lot of the figures. Their toys have a nice weight to ‘em, the factory paints are great and quality of vinyl is pretty damn nice. The Space Goji’s and Biollante I have are probably my favorites they’ve produced thus far, but everything they’ve put out I’ve had no complaints with.

 

General consensus here seems to be that these are beautiful but SB members are some combination of too (i) old, (ii) crotchety, and/or (iii) cash poor to pull the trigger.

Good job Mondo. Hope to oggle these at my next con before shuffling off to see what the Marusan table has.

 

@Geobukgan If anything I’d say ones you have your eyes on out of curiosity are very much worth taking the leap of chance on. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Even their first forays into soft vinyl with Hedorah and ‘84 Goji are awesome. They’re getting into lots of cool projects and toys to look forward to, in my opinion!

 

Swiftly striking before the global premier of the coinciding film, Mondo readies to unleash a GxK pair of soft vinyl toys, and they are BEASTLY. Goddamn, are these a pair of beefy boiz, and the paints are so fantastic and of course classic. Very, very happy and proud and privileged to have worked on shooting these, as well as feeling the same with the end results.

I couldn't resist picking up the Godzilla since I missed out on the last drop. Love the proportions on the sculpt and the MonsterVerse Godzilla is underrepresented in my collection (and soft vinyl in general) so it'll be a nice addition.

 

@HBCoffin Thanks so much, Raul! Very stoked you decided to pick up the Goji! The scale is a 10.5” you, but it seriously feels slightly taller and bigger because of the overall beefiness to it! Very much hoping we continue to see more colors and versions happening!

 

Great shots of the pair! I passed on this color-way, but I hope they do a closer to movie color-way soon.

 

@straightoutta..LOKASH Thank you, Jeremy! Mondo’s usual method is to go movie accurate first, and then creative and wild colorways after. So I was a bit surprised to see this be the first release, but I’m also not mad at it! Can’t wait to have ‘em produced and on the shelf! The missus has already claimed Kong stayin’ in her place and I “can keep” Goji. Not mad at that, either!
