Will be traveling in a couple of weeks with some of my lifelongs, a “we’re all turning/recently turned 50 let’s do something together” whirlwind weekend trip. We start in L.A., but that’s just one afternoon/night and is fully planned. Then we are in Joshua Tree for two days and nights, before heading to Vegas for a final day/night. Meow Wolf/Omega Mart is the one thing several of us definitely want to hit in LV; some want to do the Sphere, a few will probably want to go into a casino or two- neither of those interest me.

Thought I would seek any ‘brainer-recs y’all might wanna give, for either area or for anything not too far off the path between JT and LV. Hit me! And thanks in advance!

I'm more into the Mojave than JT these days. JT is so crowded.
Mohave has giant sand dunes that boom when the sand breaks as you are climbing the top. There are also Mitchell Caverns, lava tubes, and the rings loop for a fun hike. But, there is no place to stay in the Mohave. It is just dispersed camping.

Or push thru and go to Zion which is a few hours past Vegas. It is always gorgeous but if it snowed there and the clouds have rolled in it feels like magic.

I don't have any recommendations, but just wanted to say my old-time buds and me are doing the same thing this April for the 2024 eclipse. One of my friends has family property in the Texas hill country right in the the maximum eclipse path, so we're using it as an excuse to gather. I'm probably going to consume a year's worth of barbecue.

    Enjoy your reunion!

Thanks, Blake! Should be pretty fun. Haven't been out west since 2017. That first night in L.A., the plan is a schvitz/spa time, followed by some kickass BBQ in Koreatown... I am greatly looking fwd and stepping up my "DON'T FUCKING GET SICK" game as everyone around me seems to be falling to one viral illness or the other.

Your group's trip sounds like it's gonna be great, too... I gotta get to hill country at some point! I have friends in Austin that go pretty regularly and love it there...
