I imagine the topic of run numbers has been talked about before (maybe to death for some), but if so I can’t find anything. More specifically… Has having 1/XX ever made you hesitate to open a toy? How about from a first release?
Unless you are planning on selling it, I don't see how numbers dictate whether you would 'open' a toy or not? Whether a toy is 1/1 or 1/10,000 I buy to enjoy them and part of that is examining the artistry, nuances of the sculpt, checking out the tactility of it, sometime photographing it and then ultimately displaying it. I can't do the above if it is still bagged. I'm yet to receive a toy that looks better in the plastic bag and even the ones that come in more ornate packaging (boxes, etc) are better out of them. Do I appreciate the header art - yes - and do I keep the headers and bags? Also yes. However, leaving the toy in the bag is the antithesis of why I bought it. In my opinion, toys that stay in the bag are generally there because the person isn't convinced they want to keep it and therefore resale is the primary motivator, not enjoyment of the toy.
I will opening bag and playing with the toys when I received. The toys keeps in bags as out of display room. Let says Bullmark repro monsters, as I pre-order them. When received 1-2 month later, I don't have time to rearrange the shelves to put them. The size of them usually need more room. Then, some toys I not open bags due to it is not what I expected. I am not sure I want to keep it or not! That's is.

Absolutely hear that. That's definitely the party line, and one I typically adhere to as well. I wasn't particularly specific in my question. I came across a 1/XX of a toy from an artist I really love and respect, and hesitated for a bit to unpack it (I eventually did). This might sound silly, but I hesitated not because I'm just chomping at the bit to sell it on YJA, but because of its historical value within this genre and hobby. It was a "woah, this is the one that kicked them all off" kind of thing, and that felt extra special to me. I'm curious if anyone else has ever had that kind of a moment. This was my conundrum. Obviously I love how it looks out of the bag, but it looked super cool in the bag too, because of that extra 'woah' factor. Maybe it's just me!
I haven’t opened a toy in years. No other reason other then, don’t really have anything on display. I still have some stuff in the original shipping box.
Not sure which party that is but in the words of Mr Marx, "I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member" I'm really interested to see what the 1/XX toy is you mentioned that looks "super cool in the bag" - any chance of a photo? Almost every Toygraph Racer I've bought has been bagged and had I wanted to 'preserve' the value, I'd have kept them in the bag but I didn't buy them for that reason - the early ones would have been sitting in their bags since circa 18 years. I also have a few custom paints that don't really count as 1/1 because the sculpt isn't a one-off but the paint is... all set free. Perhaps you mean earlier and a vintage piece? Whatever the case, I fall into the set them free side... let them breathe, frolic, romp and be admired. "Nobody puts (vinyl) baby in the corner!"
Im not sure if this is what you're talking about, but I do enjoy finding test paints and samples every now and then, even though only some artists even keep track of that kind of stuff.
