Maz and his lady Lindsay were in town for the Craola show last night. I was lucky enough to spend the afternoon and evening with them showing them around SF. Here are a few photos (mostly from the Craola show). This dude is everywhere in SF right now, I even found one on the counter of S7. Could this be the work of JoeBunny? 5024SF's top dog Ben watching the door to make sure nobody steals paintings. Great turn out for the event. We spotted the Stangeco toy crew, Mars1, Matt Revelli (Juxtapoze editor), Robin Williams, Katie (co-owner of gallery 1988 in LA), Craola's mom....... Now some of the paintings: Lisa and I were lucky enough to buy this one. this was the best in show (IMO) this one is huge about 2'x4' and will cost you $12,000 if your interested! Robin Williams bought this drawing Installation painting, it will only exist for a month and then it gets painted over. When we were done with the hipster seen at 5024SF we went to S7 to help finish off the free beer. That's Maz and Lindsay with Brian. It was a great night out in SF. Craola continues to get better, 18 months ago many of the paintings from his 5024SF show went unsold, this time most paintings were sold before the event opened. It is great to see such a talented guy find success in the art world. Big thanks to Maz and Lindsay come back and see us again soon.
I'm not a huge fan of some of Craola's subject matter, but there is no doubt he is hugely talented and great technically as well. Looks like a cool show, thanks for posting pics. Haven't seen Maz around Skullbrain in a while...has he given up on Jp vinyl?
Nope, he is just busy painting these days. He is starting to get invited to participate in group shows and since he works a a snails pace he has no time to do much else.
your first sentence took the words right out of my mouth. i really dont have a great knowledge of art but the only person who is better technically then craola that i have seen from posts on the toy boards is mark ryden and he's amazing.
it was a fantastic time all around. kudos to glenn and lisa for showing me and my gf a great time in the city. the show was impressive, and once again craola sold almost all of the pieces before opening time. and nope, i didnt give up on J vinyl. just been ridiculously busy with my own artwork and my 9-5. a snail and i raced once, and the snail paints faster than i do.
You guys must have arrived right after I left cause I was there when Robin Williams was. I missed everyone at the show.
i paint slower than this disabled guy i saw once on the santa monica promenade. he paints landscapes with the tip of his nose(i'm not lying) cuz he can't use his arms.
