I guess anybody can just refer to the board's debate on customizing small run pieces and I'm sure everybody's stance on this will be obvious. this might be considered even more taboo though, since it's 7 one-off customs in a one-off custom case... I thought the display looked fucking amazing just the way it is in the pictures. Curious about what the guy that made the display would think about this though...
He can do whatever he want but unless this brings in some serious $$$ it is probably a boneheaded thing to do. There is no guarantee Gargamel isn't going to make these figures, he really won't have much to show for his $$$ if they do.
I think it's a real shame to sell off the case. Given the time and attention that was taken to build it, it was probably considered a very important part of this piece - much like the frame on a painting, I see the figures and case as a unit not two separate things.
thing is,,,stealthtank obviously doesn't care too much about the monetary or accrued value of things...for example,,the deals that he gives when he sells... i personally would not sell the cabinet,,,,for one,,,i really dig it... two,,,it is part of the set... three,,,it is like a piece of the thrashout store in your collection...
black/white discussions whether s.o. is good or bad or s.o. can do what he/she want as he paid for it belongs to kindergarten. why should s.o. be respected who gives a shit about kirby, gargamel and board members who would love to own it the way it is. feel sorry for gargamel as it was a great installation - hope this wont effect future exhibitions. however not too late to stop the auction...
Oh, I got a kirby too... I got suckered in by the sales pitch while my wife was out, and when she got home, she was like "You did what?"
Oh that's right. Duh xoco. Thanks Pogue. Loco, just tell her that it'll pay for itself by outlasting any other brand by years. Kirby's really are built to last.
Its funny how everyone thinks that their opinions should matter to someone who purchased something. In the US you can buy a piece of art just to destroy it if you want.
That's true but it's also true that in the US, you can state your opinions about such things if you want. I may be wrong but didn't take the discussion to be directed at ST, just people discussing the matter in usual SB fashion. Nevertheless I think it's unfair to call ST a bozo given that he's put great stuff up for sale here at lower-than-retail prices and is a well-respected board participant in general.
u know what - u can even do this everywhere in the world. guess there is like 1000 ways to show u are stupid and ignorant, but has got to be a pretty good one.
It was auctioned off as a single work and believe it should be kept that way, but the owner, like so many other people, can do what they want with what they own. At one end of the scale are the people who break up sets cause they only want one figure. At the other end is maybe stuff like this. If I had bought this and had mixed feelings about the entire piece, I would have sold it intact. I can't imagine buying it with the idea of taking just the figures and discarding the rest. But I'm also not driven to owning unique things.
The EU has laws that give artists rights actually. I wasn't defending either side. You can all moan and I FART A LOT as much as you like. The sense of entitlement to figures you don't own though is laughable anymore. I don't care what anyones opinion is on it, just stating my opinion, which you all want to defend. Hypocritical a bit. Just insert the eye roll right away.
