This is crazy - I already sent an email to Mark Nagata letting him know: http://cgi.liveauctions.ebay.com/2102-D ... enameZWDVW http://cgi.liveauctions.ebay.com/2105-E ... enameZWDVW http://cgi.liveauctions.ebay.com/2103-B ... enameZWDVW http://cgi.liveauctions.ebay.com/2104-A ... enameZWDVW http://cgi.liveauctions.ebay.com/2102-D ... enameZWDVW http://cgi.liveauctions.ebay.com/2088-K ... enameZWDVW
We should email them to end the bid by offering an insane amount. Ask oddball questions... Is there a blue dot or pink smear under the right toe of the Eyezon? This worlds crazy, I want off.
here's the auction company list http://www.phillipsdepury.com/auctions/online-catalog.aspx?sn=NY000108&rpp=48&search=&order=&p=3 http://www.phillipsdepury.com/auctions/online-catalog.aspx?sn=NY000108&rpp=48&search=&order=&p=2
I'm curious - because the auction and/or prices don't mean anything to you or you don't like the vinyls?
I don't understand their auctions period. Are they targeting poor saps or the rich & famous? Sell at high prices and they will come.
I've always loved this Elliott Erwitt photograph. http://www.phillipsdepury.com/auctions/ ... p=6&order=
they actually have a lot of cool artwork and decorative objects some of which are reasonably priced which makes the kaiju prices even more irrational. I'd love to know their thinking on this as well. Is it a strategy intended to dupe rich auction goers or do they really see vinyls are under valued and appreciated decorative objects. In a way it's kind of cool validation of the things we love and appreciate although hopefully it won't have any impact on real world prices for this stuff. Personally i don't see this impacting our world of collecting at all.
I really hope any of us don't need some friggin gallery to make us feel "validated". What is there a need to validate anyway? Actually it is already impacting our hobby I think...people from here have already contributed to their auctions(and they sold well ) ....it's just going to get more and more (imo) since people are hearing "cha-ching".... *shrug*
both honestly. More of the first part than the latter. I think there might be only real damaging part of this fleecing of Richie Mc schlitz. For me it's that it gives the "outside" world the idea that any custom is more important than a regular run. but in the end for me personally its just.. Yawwn. next please.
One of these fuckers was at that Toy Tokyo Show last night showing the catalog around, talking about how they were trying to "Elevate Kaiju to the art form that it really is" I had a chance to donkey punch him in the back of the head, but I'm a lady. Regretting it today though.
Hey, the joys of living in a (relatively) free market economy. If the pieces are ridiculously overpriced (which of course they seem to be), they will not be sold. 'Nuff said. Does seem kinda dumb on a major scale, though... some peeps got no class.
i hope these all sell. i 100% support duping rich people from their money. you really think this "scene" will be overrun by rich folks and jack up the prices of older pieces (which are typically only a year old or so, anyways) we're looking for? and even if that happens, great! i can sell my old stuff for stupid money and buy a bunch of new stuff on an all expense paid trip to tokyo.
You know Phillips is a bunch of crack heads - they'll have schill bidders so all the "prices are met" and I BET that the Godzilla ia a Bandai reissue - they've always been a cluess bunch of sots
