what was the problem with the ghonner? jus tcurious cause i did an interview w/ tim once in which he revealed plans to release 9 more editions of ghonners, with less and less in each edition, until the final edition, in which he said there would be only one. to drive the collectors nuts, he said.

I remember there were some QC issues with lumpy-headed Ghonners in the first batch - It's a seriously big piece, and apparently stretches the manufacturing envelope. One of the best things about the Ghonner is the box (and I usually hate boxes - all for bags and headers). The Ghonner box is so elaborate and detailed that I'm tempted to have a plexi case made and use it as an end table ...

    NINE more Ghonners?

Presspop has a new book by Woodring called "The Museum of Love and Mystery". It's a picture board book. Mine showed up today and it is simply amazing. Jim's art is stunning as usual, but I'm really looking forward to showing this one to my kids, even though it's a little crazy.

The nice bonus is that there is a coupon for ordering the next giant size Pupshaw and Pushpaw. The set is going to run around $600, but they look so nice. Looks like Pupshaw will be about 14 inches tall and Pushpaw will be almost 19 inches tall.

I also read that Presspop did only make around 100 of the first large Pupshaw before the mold broke.

If Woodring keeps up this pace, my house will be overrun with his wild creations.

That was years ago, back in 2005, when he was talking of that right?

With mine, the head collapsed inwards in certain areas. Fortunately, I was able to return it and get a refund.
Last I heard, with the vinyl production issues, he was going to do future ones in fiberglass.

The more I see his work the more I know I should be collecting it.

I met Jim at a comic convention in 1997 and talked to him about the inspiratons for his art/comics. He said that they almost all come from his dreams. He said he was constantly looking for ways to bring the elements out of his dreams into the real world.

His toys are some of the best translations 2D to 3D in my opinion. I was lucky enough to score a yellow Mantra from someone here on the board, it is just fantastic to look at.

Next on my list of Woodring things to get is an original piece of art. In person, his color pieces just jump off the surface. There is an element of perfection in his pieces that is very inspiring.

I believe the Jiva figure came first, then Mantra.

Mantra definitely does not disappoint, and sometimes you can find one for a very good price if you keep checking auction sites here and in Japan.

I wrote this about Mantra around five years ago for TBDX:

    Coincidence.
I just picked up a Jiva from a comic book store last night..
$20. Kind of a spontaneous pickup so I have no idea if the price is okay or not.
    About 5-6 inches tall.

That price was retail when it came out in 2005, so I'd say you got a good deal. It's such a cool figure, the paint job just pops.

are you kidding? those things were more like $45 retail if i remember correctly. good deal! if youdecide you don't want it and wantt to chuck it, give me a holler. i really dig the jiva as one of jim's most brilliant inventions. it's a reconditioned soul, in case you dont know it. ;)

I think these were re-released. I seem to recall seeing these at several online shops recently for about that much.

yeah, I think the green top one in the bag is the US release. The orange top Jiva in the box was earlier.

Yeah, IIRC the Jiva went with one of the Newt sets - either Crazy or Imperial. Might have been me who hooked keiboba up with the yellow Mantra, I've had a few of them, I think I still have the a couple, and I know I have both Newt sets here somewhere. Dorbel, Mantra, Newts, Mr. Bumpers --He makes nice toys!

Jiva was made by Presspop. I'm pretty sure Sony sold the Imperial Newts as gashapon toys.

There are 2 standard painted versions in the works. Orange is the SDCC version and the black one is the 'japan' version.

I emailed them about an hour ago and didn't get an error message. Jim is going to kill a kaijin inspired line. So far he's off to a great start. These unpainted editions are priced well too for the run size.
