Nice pics kidclam. First time I've gotten a good look at the back of the fig. Awesome. Love the er... red wings.
I really like these colors and more in line with the colors Martin O uses in his paintings. Even though it is a Devilman tribute the colors are very much 60's cartoon styling.
I appreciate this part as well. I think it's the use of the 3 primary colors blue, yellow and red that give it that minimalistic cartoon feel. I can almost see this guy chasing Scooby and Shaggy around a haunted Hotel.
Actually, that's not the case from what I've heard-- they're priced the way they are because of the production costs that went into getting Ojo out there, in particular, the paint masks. The mold of any toy being expensive, try throwing those specially made masks on top of that, plus who knows how much it is to produce a new run, and the run itself (as with most of their other output) being low in number to begin with, and there you have it. I don't have any official contract with Gargamel for exclusivity of character use for Ojo, but it is understood that he is mine and I simply choose not to have anyone else make toys of him but for Gargamel, pretty much because (duh) they fucking rock and they've come to be good friends of mine. I'll go so far as to say I don't plan on ever letting anyone else produce an Ojo toy. That's about as much as I know-- Bwana could probably enlighten you more about it.
Oh, and I agree with Marswillrule, I like the header art on this one too-- going to make it my priority to paint a new one for every release from now on. In fact I'm working on one tonight, for something else... something different. Again.
Also, according to Kiyoka the body and part of each arm have to be paint rubbed to color in the scales, which takes extra time and ain't cheap.
Ha! Actually, I like the idea of a big fat Ojo. I think it's safe to say there will be something new at the art show, but it's a surprise!
