i get in arguments sometimes with the jars of clay/michael w smith crowd about contemporary christian rock and how bad i think it sucks. i'm trying to compile a list of good religious themed songs to counter the christian rock songs what is it exactly? it's like if a band completely devotes their time to religious pop music, i just find it very annoying. is it just me or is that music just generally bad? "You people aren't making Christianity better. You're just making rock n' roll worse!" -- Hank Hill
i heard the song 'rotten apple' by alice in chains (seems to be religious themed) this morning which is what made me start thinking about this.
there was this hardcore band called Unashamed that did a version of Our God Is An Awesome God. It's pretty sweet!
i snuck into a Jars of Clay concert once... some strange dancing was goin on in there. i like "Flood"
the line "people say that i've found a way to make you say that you love me" has the brainwashing proof, from the thoughts of one of those extremist christian cult leaders....
Doug Martsch - "Woke Up This Morning With My Mind On Jesus" (I'm sure this is a cover, but I love Doug's version.)
1 album: Oblivians Play 9 songs with Mr. Quintron Here's a track from the album, about 45 sec in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQKNivePSN8
I was gonna say "There aren't any", but I can't argue with this! (And I'm gonna be humming it all day now - thank you very much! )
"Jesus" - The Velvet Underground "Church" - OutKast "Psalm" - Roxy Music "Turn! Turn! Turn!" - The Byrds "I Just Want To See His Face" - The Rolling Stones "Allah Hoo Allah Hoo" - Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
These are not traditional "praise god" songs, in fact they are probably the opposite. Critical of god/religion Morrissey - I have forgiven Jesus Streetlight Manifesto - Forty Days Oh... Joan Osborne - What if God was one of us (it doesn't suck as much as Christian Rock)
in theory, yes... but i'm not going to convince a jars of clay fan that there is in fact good religious music out there by using deicide as an example
you beat me to it. Great record! One of the grittiest bands playing the most soulful music. Oblivions are boss! Badman is one of the best songs ever. otis redding and johnny cash can't go wrong as well.
There is a band called Antestor that plays (un)black metal, they are christians - can you believe this ! The even got Hellhammer to play session drums for them once. WTF
Speaking of... I'm looking for the video and song "U Can't Judge This" a cover of "Can't Touch This" by MC Hammer by Carmen (Carman) the Christian singer If anyone has it...
