Those are some massive donuts... eating one in less than a minute and a half does sound pretty tough.
I just arrived in town. The Ace Hotel seems like a pretty swell dive. Gonna go for a run and then see if I can find some good grub. Hopefully they are able to open up I-5 soon; the rain is supposed to dissipate starting this afternoon.
As does Francis just a bit farther up the street - maybe 20th? Best French Toast I've ever had! I don't ever really eat on the West side - but Jake's seafood is right near the Ace and is suppose to be fairly good. There's a bunch of restaurants on the N side of Burnside (in the Pearl) that are fancy and good. And if you haven't been before you gotta hit Powell's bookstore. I wasn't able to get out of being on-call...and I just found out that I will have to stay late tomorrow because of call! I still plan on making the show though.
Appreciate the info, guys! I will hunt some of those places down later this afternoon and report back my findings. So stoked to be here. I have never been but have always heard nothing but great things!
Lucky you - I think it's suppose to be sunny this weekend! The past several weeks have either been snow or rain and high winds.
Damn, I'm really hoping some pieces make it through the deadline and make it onto the website... while my bank account/conscience doesn't quite side with me, who really listens to that anyway I envy those of you who're going to be in attendance, I bet it's a really good time, and I look forward to Flickr coverage of the exploits.
It is kinda wet and crappy (muddy) but do yourself a favor and go for a run in forest Park. Largest City park within a city limit in the world! Makes Central Park look like a sand box (sizewise that is) ! Eastside is were a lot of stuff happens - West (Downtown) is kinda the uppity shopping area. LMK if you need any help getting around - drop me a PM of need be.
Just to get everyone's taste buds salivating, a preview of some stuff: Custom Zag by Ka-To-Pe Custom Globby, Zombie Ojo and minis by Naoya Ikeda Ojo painting by Chanmen I was there today, unwrapping all the customs for display, have seen all of them and the paintings--- This is NOT to be missed, unless you're North of Portland, in which case I totally feel for you... my girlfriend's in Seattle, so I'm S.O.L. to see her this weekend.
I took a detour during my run and peaked in at the Grass Hut. Oh my gawd! Nearly 70 AMAAZING customs!!! And the show exclusives are stellar as well. The Takoji Saijin in particular is great! I would definitely be on the Grass Hut website tomorrow night, because many, many great pieces are going to slip through! There are literally 25 different figures that could be my first pick. No Joke! Some highlights include: Kiyoka Panda Standard Standing Hedorah and Swamp Thing Takoji Saijin Multiple Zombie Ojos and Rokurons HP Gachamecha Katope Standard Zag (amongst what seemed like 20 Zag customs)
This is going to be an awesome show. That painting by Chanmen is tight. Ugh at not being in Portland. T____T
Fuck. I cry. What an amazing preview of the show! I'm sure all the killer stuff are being saved until tomorrow.
The zagoran by Ka-To-Pe is stunning. I'm not really into the fullsize zagorans but that one is awesome. I actually like the grasshut G H lettering on it as well.
Hah, I didn't even notice the H part til you mentioned it. My dog, Gojira, has a similar G on the underside of his custom Zagoran sweater how funny
I think I'm going to have to declare this dead for me. Even if they reopen this afternoon, there are thousands of trucks waiting to go. I doubt we'd make it down there in time for the show.
I really like Chanmen's 'dissected' style... every single painting of him i've seen is striking and you keep coming back to find/discover new details. The sleeping cat on top of the snake is pure genius. Can't wait to see more pictures of this show. The woodblock display is beautiful. Totally Portland!
