I was into 'em for a little bit, although I got to know Ben a bit and that kinda put the kill on listening to 'em. Every now and then, though i'll crank out one of their albums!
they played the first show i ever went to, december 88 at the uconn student union. ben ran around in a speedo and that was it. i didnt care for them then and i care less now.
They were definitely my favorite band in the early 90s-I listened to Boogadaboogadaboogada! this morning on my way to work and its still awesome.
I enjoy the early stuff like "boogada.." but I don't own them anymore. I do tend to enjoy alot of ramones insipired punk but for me a lot of it hasn't aged well. I bought a riverdales record a few weeks ago and I couldn't even get through 4 songs. I do love ben weasel for the Lillingtons records he produced. The Lillingtons are probably one of the most underrated if not unknown bands of the last 10 years. If anybody here is a fan of this type of punk at all I highly suggest you pick up "death by television". Even my friends who are lunkhead hardcore kids enjoy this record. PLUS they are from fucking Wyoming. WHO IS FROM WYOMING??? I love it.
I would agree that some of it hasn't aged well, but it all depends on what band/album you're talking about. I still think albums like Wiggle and Anthem for a New Tomorrow are fantastic. A lot of the newer records by a lot of those bands seem phoned in though.
Ok, I should have said "pre-Kill the musicians" because I don't really count much past that. Still, its fun and wakes you up in the morning. Try it!
I still listen to some of their early stuff (vinyl of course) from time to time. It's fun with a couple of beers!
I just don't connect to a lot of SW stuff anymore. Back when I was really into it my life was so different, now a lot of it comes off as whiney to me. I still like them more than any other of the popish punk/lookout style stuff they were lumped in with, but I dunno, maybe I got old? I guess what might be more accurate is now, when I listen, I'm taken back with a hint of negative nostalgia to a time in my life where I wasn't so happy. That might be it too.
My husband loves SW...he likes all kinds of the pop punk....I can handle some of it. I can't stand the Riverdales, and he plays them all the time. Sadly, after the 25th time listening my foot starts tapping and I can sing along. It's almost like campfire party. But, I am a huge Vindictives fan. I love them. Ben Weasel is doing some shows in LA soon. Like special evening with the Pop Punk..or some nonsense. Is he doing them all over the country?
I hate SW for the simple fact that they spawned a billion shitty clone bands. SW themselves weren't that bad but the majority of the bands they inspired were terrible. Especially the ones that imitate Ben's vocals. Yuck.
