Picked up 'Supermen' at Fantagraphics this Saturday. Full of over the top, crazy pre-WWII super heroes. Artists like Fletcher Hanks, Basil Wolverton, Eisner & Kirby.
Not always politically correct, but really goofy, imaginative stuff - highly recommended!

This is the greatest thing ever. From ridiculous origins (one of them is filled with air and thus can fly and shoot lasers out of his eyes; his only weakness is glass) to random examples of racism. This is really the greatest TP I've ever bought.

Another good one is Boody (also by Fantagraphics) and I'm looking forward to "You Shall Die By Your Own Evil Creation !"

    Seriously, these are amazing.

Comics as a storytelling medium, or super hero comics as a genre?

    Super hero genre.

I do enjoy comics by Paul Hornschemeier or John Porcellino. Stuff like that.
