not too sure what scale 1/80 is when it's based on an anime EVA unit, but your loved ones can fork out...

    155,400円 for this!

    Medicom...wtf? $1600?

While always high I've been seeing their prices steadily increase as their level of "importance" increases. RAH now average 15500 yen, probably due to Hot Toys...who I believe puts out a far superior product for the same price.

They really need to pull back on their releases, focus on what they use to be, which was toys by fans for fans rather than something akin to Sideshow Toys.

Just with some rough math, giving that the Evas should be about 40 meters tall...
That would make it about 20 inches tall.

Definitely not worth it, especially when it looks like there is no articulation. I'd just go with the smaller, better, more articulated, and under $20 revoltech.

$1600? oh you gotta be kidding me. this is one of the worse Eva toys I've seen.

    Revoltech or SOC will suffice.

And I've never owned a figure buy Hot Toys, but damn their stuff looks good. Yes, Medicom needs to stick to what they know.

bigger isn't always better, though. Why do an EVA unit when they could have made a RAH figure that size? Imagine an articulated Ultraman, Kamen Rider, Kanegon, etc at that size!

Here's a good example of how more superior Hot Toys is. K-R-A-Z-Y

I wouldn't worry about Medicom. They've been making crazy items for years (Bugwriter, anyone?) and they're none the worse for wear.

Besides, this isn't a mass-market item, it's a web site exclusive that's being made to order. They're going to sell every one they make, and I'm sure they priced it so that even if they got a small number of orders they'd still be making money on each piece.

if this thing could pose like the SOC or Revoltech, it might be worth the hype. otherwise, pass.

I don't know, I think its pretty cool. According to that link its a hybrid vinyl/ABS/metal figure, the knife is detachable, the entry plug is made from separate parts and the thing is a meter tall which is pretty huge. $1500 is definitely a lot to drop on a figure, but when you think about how hard it would be to produce that thing for the numbers they will probably make its really not that ridiculous.

One thing you want to remember with figures that size too is that weight plays a much bigger role in articulation. Its comparatively easy to joint small figures like Revoltechs because the parts are so small and light they don't put much weight on the joint. For a figure that size (and with the proportionate weight per-piece) you'd need much stronger joints if you wanted to go with a ball-joint type and if you left it in a pose for too long it would probably put a lot of stress on the joint and cause them to wear down quickly. You could maybe try ball-jointing the vinyl, but then you'd get paint rubs any time you moved it. Also, imagine if that thing fell over... it weighs over 50 pounds now, so I think after one tumble your figure would be a goner. I guess all I'm trying to say is I don't have a problem with it being static at that size (since it's really gone beyond the realm of "toy" into "display piece").

All I know is that when I fist saw Neon Genesis it changed my whole outlook on anime, and made me LOVE the colors purple, green and black ;)

Like Ricky said at this size its a display piece, and even if it did have a ton of articulation I would most likely keep it in one pose anyways.

Bottom line, if I had the money to blow I would grab this in a hot second.

I keep coming back just to look at this massive bad ass work of art.

part of what's not a big selling point for me is that I have an old EVA figure that is identical to this that is also has the weapons / pose options, but was at a fraction of the price. For that price, size or not, I'd want a few extra bells and whistles. Why not have it with an armature? If companies can make BJD (ball-jointed dolls) at that price and size then I'd expect, at a minimum to do the same with this.

At least have the capsule with it or some other goodies. a to-scale shinji?

Oh man, I always remember when I was heavy into 1/6 arguing over "who's the best!" I'll say now what I did then, Hot Toys makes the best, but Medicom will always be my favorite. There's a certain style they bring to it that no one else can. It's MORE than just making 1/6 figures looking accurate, which HT does perfectly, I just always feel there's something lacking in HT. Maybe it's because HT doesn't have a Star Wars line yet, hahaha. When they do, I'll be all over them!

The thing is, like others said, Medicom IS making toys for fans without caring. If they thought about sensible things, they wouldn't make such an INSANE figure, like this! Medicom always pushes the toy envelope further when it comes to licensed brands.

Kind of old news, but as an addendum to the lifesize Eva (and some evidence why it probably won't put Medicom out of business, too): http://www.sankakucomplex.com/2009/02/2 ... sells-out/

That blog is notoriously NSFW, so wait till you're home to click (even though the article itself is OK the other links may not be).

Best line in that article - "And it does not appear possible to have sex with the figure at all."

And may I ask how little Gendo is doing?

But I'm glad another person besides me thinks its OK to name their kids after cartoon characters. My wife and I decided that if/when we have kids its either Raoh or Mikkuru. There can be no alternative.

My wife has agreed to name our son (if we have kids, and a boy) Homer! I was really pushing for Bender, but at least she's down with Homer. :D
