Wow! The Monks are/were awesome! ... I can't say I was really aware of them before. That one TV show might've inspired the whole Krautrock movement! I lean more towards the psych end of things. Made a sort-of Top 10. There is SO MUCH of this stuff on YT now! - Some of it I'm going to have to go back and listen to myself. I don't know about sat radio ones Missy. There's some good internet ones. But yeah, not at work. Funny thing about the Monks. I remember my family talking about them back in the early 70's and how they shaved their heads like that. I bring it up and they don't recall. My Dad was stationed in Germany same time as them (they were GI's that formed a band and made up silly lyrics because their audience was all Germans who just wanted to dance) and he swears he doesn't remember, hence I was conceived around the same time and was born in Germany. I feel an odd connection to them, and I find them very satisfying to my soul. Very warm and sort of endearing. Before the re issues of their stuff, i actually had a dream about them. No BS.
This is just slightly outside of the original intent, but still amazing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZc-kPWWQvc A favorite, for sure.

This thread is so great. Thanks to all of you for some really cool sounds. Paul, love your enthusiasm and "I had To Much To Dream Last Night," Electric Prunes just kill me! Geotaro, "Summertime Blues" brings back a few memories. I lived in a commune on Masonic right off Haight St. in the 60's just a few doors down from Blue Cheer. Actually helped them move a refrigerator up two flights of stairs when they were moving into their apartment. I may be veering a little off track with my picks but this thread has inspired me. SRC - Black Sheep http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjN7hIvTngY Not too long after this 45 came out, the band I was in at the time (10th grade) played the song at a battle of the bands. I sang the lead and played the Farfisa on this tune. The name of our band was "Black Barrel" named after a popular drug tablet at the time (though our parents did not know where the name came from). We came in 2nd, beaten by a more polished group of college kids. Turns out that our guitarist's older brother, unbeknownst to the rest of us in the band, had stolen the amp our guitarist was using from a college gym - from the same band that beat us at the battle. The police were in contact with him a couple of days later... That was the end of the band. It was a nice amp, the same kind I was using, made by Sun O))). Talking Heads - Warning Signs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbuei9AIq9U First time I saw TH was at UC Davis. Backup band was the B-52s. General admission, gym floor like atmosphere. Best show was much later in DC at a theatre I can't remember the name of.
Savage Grace - All Along The Watchtower: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vd7-jzbK7Y I was at this festival, just about 20 rows back from the stage and remember watching this performance. It was the Goose Lake rock festival. I lived on bomb pops, and, well, other stuff, for about 4 days... Wow, some of us made it out. Others didn't. I think I was 16. I can't believe I talked my parents into letting me go. This was like the last major festival after Woodstock. Yah, it wuz groovy. It was a great time to be a teenager.

Love the Hollies. Bus Stop. First time I heard this song it was being played really loud from a ride at a county fair. I can't remember the name of the ride, but it was kind of like a circular roller coaster that whipped around under a cover. There were lots of mirrors and mirror balls. Went out and bought the Hollies album shortly thereafter. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxMUiZzWy78
