Patrick Nagel was a fairly famous pop art painter in the seventies. He died in 1984, but was prolific in his short forty years of life. He did tons of illustration and painting work for Playboy in that time, as well as many gallery shows and exhibitions. His work is often said to resemble the clear cut simplicity of Japanese wood block work. This is not my print, but just so you recognize this popular artist who is not always recognized by name. My print is called "Ship" made in 1977 and the first of many prints made in conjunction with Mark Boorstein of LA's Mirage Gallery. Prints were made of 800 signed-in-screen and 200 signed and numbered in border. The research I've done still says my print is rare despite the numbers issued. We bought ours at the Salvation Army.

They fit right over the ears, which hold them somewhat snugly, although I did have to tape the feet down to the table so he wouldn't topple over. he is gigantic with the horns and looks quite nice I think. here's a pic with a bako for scale: as for the nagel work, I do not like his feminine images. I DO like this image of the ship. It is very eighties in its design, but not as gaudy as most things that elicit that distinction. The simple palm tree framed ship into waterfall image with flamingo is very calming for me and depicts a fantasy life of luxury that seems relaxing. The tone of the image works well with its layered design. I've had this picture for two years now and just recently looked up the artist and title. I love that it is actually worth something while still fulfilling its role in my home as a cheap kitsch element. Now its got a story, which increases its value for me tenfold. akum6n, i hear thomas kinkade is a wicked drunk and is essentially unwanted at large, well-advertised craft fairs. due to his illuminated clout received through his sculpting of electrically-wired lighthouses and other mom-focused imagery, it is difficult for the fair organizers to deny him tablespace. so essentially, despite making the worst bits of cliche plaster architecture, in that world kinkade is a badass.

Re: How I display my Patrick Nagel print.... it takes a real artist to yell the word "codpiece" repeatedly at performers who are on stage. its a demonstration of his artistic integrity to call out those whose work is equally tacky to his own. it is almost as if he wished someone would yell "phallic lighthouse! phallic lighthouse!" at him while he drunkenly signs certificates of authenticity for mass-produced plaster molds. it's also a tribute to kinkade's integrity that he makes public scenes while hanging out with his mom. he probably hangs out with her all the time.
Re: How I display my Patrick Nagel print.... 60 minutes did a great piece on kinkage a few years ago. should be on youtube somewhere...dude is an ass, and the fact that he's the most successful "artist" of all time sickens me. though judging success financially seems to fall way short of the mark, looking at the stories above. Nagel is the antithesis of the art I love. I have a broad range of work I like, but his bland and uber-sterile images leave me feeling like I'm in an accountant's office. no offense, as I'm glad your print brings you joy...

Kinkade might make cookie cutter shit that decorates our moms houses, but that's his business and it's been very good to him. At least he acts like the god damn most successful artist of all time.

Now with more Kinkade Thomas Kinkade "Painter of Light" caught drunk driving, one of his companies is going bankrupt and he has to spend ten days in jail.
