Crud! If i still lived in Ohio I'd def go! It's quite a haul from Kansas! hmmm...maybe I should look into flights....
I'm seriously considering it. If anything, to be able to see all this incredible stuff under one roof. How often will that opportunity arise? Maybe bid on something ...the adrenaline coursing thru the veins.... ...what a rush even if you lose a bid. Yeah, it would be interesting to see how many folks go.
I think my sanity might be in question, but I'm seriously considering a trip back to the states for this. My schedule won't allow me to do the Tokyo trip again this year--a bit ironic since I'm actually closer to Japan this year--but the auction dates are doable. I need to see the catalog first, even though I've already seen three possible wants in the tease photos. Figure I should make absolutely sure there are things I'm after before I fly 9,000 miles. Maybe I can work in a Steelers game. Let's see...they get Cinci at home that weekend. A revenge game...this could work... -- jJ
Noticed that the online catalog is up at: http://www.auctionflex.com/searchauctio ... 20&lang=en All sorts of crazy stuff, just goes on and on and on and on. Some random things....
Crap. I did *not* pick the best time to become a student again... what an Ali Baba cave of great toys!
Considering it too, just to eyeball all that stuff. Maybe buy a little. Gettysburg is close by, along with the Hershey factory. Thats always a fun trip.
Some of the lot selections are bizarre. For example I saw two lots where they each contained one of the Sanda or Gaira figures from M1. I'd think they'd put those guys together since they are a set?
My fault. Dude, I was pouring over literally thousands of toys over the course of 3 days. The four of us were utterly shell-shocked by the time it was all over. I'm just glad my fuck-ups I've caught thus far haven't been TOO life-threatening!
Damn Sanjeev you make pouring over thousands of awesome pieces sounds so chore-like! I totally would have geeked out. Wish I could be there, looks like fun.
I hope that for the sake of the toys you two mean 'poring over', or there are going to be some very disgruntled winners.
holy smokes, I cannot believe how many rad toys are being auctioned off at this event...!!! would be super fun to check this for real...!!!
Guys, I have semi-bad-ish news. Well...it's something. There's a bit of a massive fuck-up: see, a lot of the modern designer vinyl lots (Secret Base, RxH, and the like) were fucking GIMUNGOUS. At first, Morphy's photographed only a few pieces from each of these lots. These are the *same* pictures that are currently online for the auction, and the same images that will appear in the hardcover catalog. Now, they sent us these pics a while back so we could write the descriptions and put in price ranges...but they sorta neglected to tell us there were TONS more toys in the lots not pictured! As a result, the estimates we posted for many of these lots are way off. The estimates are for ONLY what's pictured. Granted, this isn't a huge deal: y'all know what these toys are worth. The real problem, obviously, is that you don't ACTUALLY know what else is in these lots. I'm told that approximately 60 lots have additional toys in them. I recall at least a few of the lots filling whole fucking shipping crates! So this is no joke. Anyway, they've told me that they will be taking additional photos of ALL the toys in each of these massive lots soon and sending them to us for evaluation. Again, the estimates we provide aren't super-critical (to US) because we all know what these things are worth...but it will FINALLY be our first opportunity to see *all* the toys really in these lots. The additional photos will be printed into an addendum to the catalog, and those who show up to the auction in person will receive not only the main hardcover catalog, but also a copy of the addendum. The images and adjusted price estimates/descriptions will be posted online as soon as they're ready. I hope. The reason I'm a bit nervous about this is because I've yet to see any mention of this little problem anywhere online. None of the auction pages seem to talk about the missing toys in each lot. I was told that the main hardcover catalog (which I believe is being printed as we speak) will have a major announcement in the front stating that the images of the large modern designer vinyl lots are missing items, and that customers should look online for the updated pics/descriptions/price estimates. If anyone has seen a note like this already online, please let us know. Also, please not that the vintage vinyl is completely unaffected by this. That shit is airtight.
ok, went back tonight and bookmarked the shit i'm bidding on. all you guys focus on the vinyl and the vintage tin and we should be ok.... it's all about POPY for me.
Bizarre timing on this... Absolutely the WORST time to sell. But...... For all of us with cash the BEST time to buy.
Has anyone else received the hardbound catalog? I just got it in the mail yesterday.... Mind blowing to have so many genres of Japanese toy collecting in one book, fantastic reference!
