I went through the new reservation process this morning at 9 and haven't gotten an email back. Has anyone received their "confimation" email yet?
I got a hotel 6 miles away, WTF. I submitted my online form at about 9:05am. POS. Oh, and my email didn't get to me 'til about 6pm.
Pretty sure I got a hotel, but thankfully I have a friend who has a friend who works at a hotel out there, so I'm only like a mile away. That or I'm staying with a coworker. Can't wait to get out there!
Its probably safe to say if you haven't heard by now that you are not going to. I had my reservation submitted within the first few minutes when it went online. And I got an email back within 3 hours... Unfortunately, none of your hotel choices had 2 beds available when your form was processed so we reserved a room for you with 1 bed to ensure you have a room for the event.
Apparently not, I just spent 20 minutes on hold as I had not heard and was told I will be informed by March 26th - which is not awesome as there will be zero available - excellent!
Apparently all of the writers of Dr. Who were placed in hotels at Sea World. Something weird definitely happened with the hotels this morning.
something weird seems to have happened with the hotels in general this year. I can't speak for other exhibitors, but we got semi-shafted this year...we've been at the same hotel for years, but this year we lost our normal spot. not a fan of the way they do this, I'm guessing if the con ever moves to Vegas things will probably be a hell of a lot easier hotel wise.
they gave a lot of exhibitors the shaft brother. It's a shame what they're doing. I'm sure they are feeling the brunt of anger this year at the hands of attendees and exhibitors.
I'm lucky in that I can walk to the convention center, but SD and Comic-Con better their act together before 2012. They both seem to be doing their best to piss people off. I'm hoping it stays in SD, I don't really feel like having to go to LA/Anaheim/Vegas to be able to attend.
I don't think it's just Twilight, but all the movie studios and larger companies that seem to be taking over the Con...making it harder for the little guys.
Rumor has it the Con is either going to Orange County or Los Angeles in 2012, I suspect Orange County as there are not enough hotel rooms in downtown LA. There was an article about this in the New York Times last week. I think they want to or have to stay in California so its either SD, LA or the OC. Vegas would be cool and great for hotels but its not to be.
They should split the con in two. Hold all the Hollywood BS in one place and the actual comics and toys in another.
I am looking for a spot, so if anyone has a room and is looking for some people to kick in let me know.
So is there any reason why it couldn't move to Vegas? Aside from I guess it's a big money spinner for San Diego - wouldn't Vegas be a better location in terms of hotel rooms? Or as mentioned maybe it's time to split it between the film stuff and the actual comics/toys/merch
Vegas would be awesome just for somewhere new and to give it a fresh buzz . . . and although it's so sprawling, with the number of Brainers based there, even LA/Anaheim would be easier (flights, accommodation, gatherings) and more of a blast!
If I were a vendor, I guess I'd be worried about all of the other things available in Vegas that my potential customers could easily blow their cash on, instead of toys and comics.
