So I order something from Madarake, Received my 40$ (+shipping) toy, get to the post office to get told that I have to pay 113$ in taxe because the value of the package is 839$ ... ok so I check the japan customs paper, Mandarake check the Gift option and value of 7100 yen Now for Canada customs it says that it's an electronics NES/ Circuits value at 839$ wow Has this ever happen to someone esle? Thanks
113$ = the taxes on a 839$ item (their evaluation of 7100 yen) If you kept your bill, it will be pretty easy to clear that off. You probably will have to pay the 113$ first and do your claim after, if you want your toy now though. This sucks hard.
canada customs are the worst. they lost a gorilla jyu on me. or at least it's still sitting there, undelivered since May.
^ Don't worry, they can fuck that up also. They lost me a 300 Euros order that was insured with Collissimo a couple years ago. Even worst is that they never acknowledged losing it in the first place. I'm lucky the senders sent me a new box right away. They got their money back from the french post 3 months later.
Is it possible for you to talk to someone at the Post Office/Customs? From the values you stated, sounds like a clerical error. I'm in the US, but it sounds similar to what happened to me. The seller shipped the package and a few weeks went by so I was wondering what was up. I got the tracking info and found out that it had been stalled at Customs the whole time. When I finally got someone on the phone, they told me that I owed them some outrageous amount on what would be about $400. worth of stuff and would also have to fill out an importer ID form, give them my SS# etc. Baffled. I started to complain, and said I've had stuff shipped from Japan at this value or more and have never had to fill out forms, pay a charge like this, etc. So the woman got all huffy and said, "well, if you import $40,000 in merchandise, what do you expect?!?!?" Um, okay. I told her to check the seller's invoice which had a value of 40,000 YEN, not dollars! Silence.....then "oh, I see what you mean." My package arrived with no Customs charges a few days later.
