I believe that alot the BM bands have national pride which in this country usually means rascism. How many people are going to say that i'm American and white and proud of it without getting a ton of shit thrown at you. Differant countries just express thing's differant.
    Best bands,
    Marduk
    Immortal
    Graveland
    Lord of evil

    so many.

Darkthrone - pretty much all of their albums but my favourite is Transilvanian Hunger.
Mayhem - De Mysteriis (obviously) but I even liked Grand Decleration of War. Especially the techno bits as it drove the hardcore chaps absolutely nuts.

Emperor, Bathory, Beherit, Burzum, Immortal, Possessed, Marduk, Hellhammer

newer stuff i'm listening to Deathspell omega, Xasthur - who's appearance with Sunn was pure evil, Nattefrost (fun), Anaal Nathrakh (necro BM :? first demo will rip your face off), Blut Aus Nord - The Work Which Transforms God is probably one of the best newer BM albums, Negura Bunget - 'N Crugu Bradului is a great album.

Thats all I can think of off the top of my head, and i've probably missed some really obvious stuff I listen too

um. no offense but Black Dahlia Murder has nothing to do with Black Metal... it's as if we are talking about Slayer and you're talking Poison. Or better put we are talking Secret Base and your talking D U N N Y

dood i was reading up on some of these bands being dropped here and I must say the stories of the inner circle are a bit gangster...dead brain stew, dead skull necklace, other bands claiming to have skull fragments, bloody and brainless dead friends on cd covers!

I thought so too. And my wife as well...she's the one that showed it to me because she likes Jogger and knew I'd get a kick out of the kids in corpse paint.

Burzum, yes the murder and nazi stuff was a terrible scar and I do not agree with it, but c'mon though the guys music is frickin' brilliant. I try to just focus on the music side of it. ...and Mayhem, and Darkthrone. That's about all the BM I can get into, the newer stuff just seems like copies of those guys to me... Can't wait for the new Burzum out in March!

I've been playing them a lot too. At first I was all "WTF is this like Spinal Tap but I DON'T get the joke?!" but then I was all "Meh, everytime it comes on I'm inclined to listen" now I'm all "Alright, I'll put their cheesiness aside like I did for King Diamond, I can't help but be hooked!"

The singer is what really shook me off, the music was too good to ignore. The lyrics get pretty silly sometimes, I feel like Satan would be ashamed of this, but that's part of the charm. Also my favorite album cover in forever.

    Re:

I am American, white, and proud. Does that automatically make me a rasict or a "nazi" now? Let the shit throwing begin....

(sorry, just read that, yeah I know it's old...)

Varg stated the he's going back to the Det Som sound with this release. Of course this is good but I had hope he'd continue with the Joy Division sound he developed on Belus.

I agree with all of this. I haven't heard enough to get to the point where the music compensates for the singing. But the album cover is terrific!

I stop thinking of them as "metal" when I listen and it helps shake it. Again, corny vocals kind of but the charm has kicked in for me. It has more of a "goth" vibe going on vocally, maybe that's what it is?

Yes I agree. I loved Belus and the "gothy" sound he throws in there sometimes. Yeah that press release also said the new one was mastered like classical music. Wow this will be interesting, can't wait to hear it. (...and I LOVE the album artwork, William Adolphe Bouguereau has always been one of my favorite artists. I saw one of his paintngs in person about 10 years ago and I was completely blown away, so beautiful.)
